Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbedaan self-compassion antara santri putri dan santri putra di Pondok Pesantren. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kuantitatif dengan pendeketan komparatif. Teknik sampling yang digunakan ialah teknik insidental sampling dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 152 santri. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen penelitian Self-Compassion Scale berdasarkan teori Kristin Neff (2003). Analisis uji validitas instrumen menggunakan Product Moment Pearson dengan bantuan software IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 25.0 hingga diperoleh hasil 25 butir item valid dan 1 butir item tidak valid. Uji reliabilitas dengan menggunakan bantuan software IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) versi 25.0 hingga diperoleh koefisien sebesar 0.72 yang berarti bahwa instrumen memiliki reliabilitas tinggi dan layak digunakan sebagai instrumen penelitian. Teknik analisis data untuk memperoleh gambaran self-compassion santri menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mayoritas self-compassion santri berada pada kategori sedang (78%). Teknik analisis data untuk pengujian hipotesis menggunakan teknik Independent Sample T-test dengan bantuan software IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences versi 25.0 hingga diperoleh nilai Asymp. Sig sebesar 0.000 yang berarti lebih kecil dari nilai signifikasi α (0.05) dan disimpulkan bahwa H1 diterima yaitu terdapat perbedaan self-compassion antara santri putri dan santri putra di Pondok Pesantren. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan self-compassion santri putri (3.28) lebih tinggi daripada santri putra (3.02). Bila dilihat berdasarkan komponen, santri putri dan santri putra memperoleh skor tertinggi pada komponen positif (self-kindness, common humanity, dan mindfulness) meskipun tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan, sedangkan pada perolehan skor komponen negatif (self-judgment, isolation, dan over-identified) menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan dengan kecendrungan perolehan skor lebih tinggi pada santri putri. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa santri putri dan santri putra sudah memiliki self-compassion yang cukup baik dalam menghadapi masalah, namun pada santri putri masih terdapat kecendrungan untuk bersikap keras pada diri saat menghadapi masalah. Implikasi dari penelitian ini, santri putri dan santri putra yang telah mengetahui tingkat self-compassion yang berada pada kategori rendah dan sedang perlu meningkatkan self-compassion. The purpose of this study was to determine self-compassion differences between female and male students in Islamic boarding school. The method used was quantitative method using comparative approach. Technique sampling used was incidental sampling technique and 152 students as respondents. Data collection was performed using Self- Compassion Scale research instrument based on Kristin Neff’s (2003) theory. Analysis of instrument validity test was conducted using Pearson’s Product Moment and IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 25.0. Therefore, the obtained result stated that 25 items were valid and 1 item was invalid. Reliability test also used IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and it was obtained 0.72 coefficients. It means that the instrument had high reliability and was suitable as research instrument. Descriptive and inferential statistics used as data analysis technique to obtain students’ self-compassion profile. The result showed that most students’ self-compassion was in moderate category (78%). Data analysis techniques for hypothesis testing used Independent Sample T-test and IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25.0 to get Asymp value. Sig of 0.000 which means it was smaller than significance value of α (0.05) and was concluded that H1 was accepted since there were differences in self-compassion between female and male students in Islamic boarding school. The result showed that female students’ self-compassion (3.28) was higher than male students’ self-compassion (3.02). Based on components, female and male students obtained the highest score on positive components (self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness) even though they did not show significant differences. However, the score for negative components (self-judgment, isolation, and over-identified) showed that there were significant differences with higher scores tendency for female students. These results showed that female and male students already had good self-compassion, but female students still had a tendency to be tough on themselves when facing problems. Implication of this study for female and male students on low and moderate categories need to enhance their self-compassion. Keywords: self-compassion, gender, Islamic boarding school students.
