Abstract

This research was intended to reveal the psychopathic disorder shown by Franklin Clarke in A.B.C. Murders novel by applying Robert D. Hare’s Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) as the main theory of the whole description in the novel. The writer used descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the psychopathic symptoms through the character’s dialogue, and utterances. Conclusively, the findings of this study reveal psychopathic symptoms portrayed on Franklin such as, Glib and Superficial, Callousness and lack of empathy, Deceitful and Manipulative, and Impulsive Behavior. The writer also revealed that Franklin belongs to Charismatic Psychopath type as he shows the symptoms, which are, attractive, charming, and pathological liar. For the cause of Franklin’s Psychopathic Disorder, the writer found that Franklin has an envy and greed issues that leads him to do the serial killing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap gangguan psikopat yang ditunjukkan oleh Franklin Clarke pada novel A.B.C. Murders dengan menerapkan Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) milik Robert D. Hare sebagai teori utama dari keseluruhan deskripsi dalam novel tersebut. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif untuk menganalisis gejala psikopat melalui dialog, dan ucapan karakter. Secara konklusif, temuan-temuan dari penelitian ini mengungkapkan gejala-gejala psikopat yang digambarkan pada Franklin seperti, Glib dan Superficial, Callousness dan kurangnya empati, Deceitful and Manipulative, dan Impulsive Behavior. Penulis juga mengungkapkan bahwa Franklin termasuk kedalam tipe Charismatic Psychopath.Ia memiliki gejala sesuai tipe tersebut, yaitu attractive, charming, dan pathological liar. Untuk penyebab dari Psychopathic Disorder yang dialami Franklin, penulis menemukan bahwa Franklin memiliki masalah kecemburuan dan keserakahan yang menuntunnya untuk melakukan pembunuhan berantai.
