Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) pengaruh langsung minat baca terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana, (2) pengaruh langsung motivasi berprestasi terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana, (3) pengaruh langsung pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana, (4) pengaruh langsung minat baca terhadap pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris, dan (5) pengaruh langsung motivasi berprestasi terhadap pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analisis jalur dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian, kuesioner minat baca dan motivasi berprestasi serta tes pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris dan kemampuan analisis wacana diberikan kepada 60 orang mahasiswa program studi sastra Inggris di Universitas Bina Darma Palembang. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dengan teknik analisis jalur dan analisis regresi ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengaruh langsung positif (1) minat baca terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana mahasiswa sebesar 44.6%, (2) motivasi berprestasi terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana mahasiswa sebesar 44.6%, (3) pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris terhadap kemampuan analisis wacana mahasiswa sebesar 44.6%, (4) minat baca terhadap pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris sebesar 21.2%, dan (5) motivasi berprestasi terhadap pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris sebesar 7.6%. Terakhir, interpretasi dan implikasi dari hasil penelitian dibahas secara mendalam dalam penelitian ini. Kata kunci: minat baca, motivasi berprestasi, pemahaman bacaan berbahasa Inggris, kemampuan analisis wacana, mahasiswa sastra Inggris ************ The aim of this study is to investigate (1) the direct effect of reading interest towards discourse analysis competence, (2) the direct effect of achievement motivation towards discourse analysis competence, (3) the direct effect of English reading comprehension towards discourse analysis competence, (4) the direct effect of reading interest towards English reading comprehension, and (5) the direct effect of achievement motivation towards English reading comprehension. This study applied path analysis technique under quantitative approach with descriptive method. To achieve the aim, the questionnaires of reading interest and achievement motivation, and also tests of English reading comprehension and discourse analysis competence were administered to a group of 60 students of English literature study program of Universitas Bina Darma in Palembang. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics under the path analysis technique and multiple regression analysis were used and the results showed positive direct effects of students’ (1) reading interest towards discourse analysis competence by 44.6%, (2) achievement motivation towards discourse analysis competence by 44.6%, (3) English reading comprehension towards discourse analysis competence by 44.6%, (4) reading interest towards English reading comprehension by 21.2%, and (5) achievement motivation towards English reading comprehension by 7.6% . Finally, the interpretations and implications of the results are also discussed.
