Abstract

Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang karier Leonardus Benjamin Moerdani di bidang kemiliteran. Penelitian skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana perjalanan karier L. B. Moerdani sebagai seorang tentara, dan apa saja prestasi yang ditorehkan L. B. Moerdani selama berkarier di bidang militer dengan periode tahun 1945 sampai 1988. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah metode sejarah, yang terdiri atas pengumpulan sumber (heuristik), kritik sumber (verifikasi), interpretasi (penafsiran), dan penulisan (historiografi). Dalam tahap pertama yaitu heuristik, penulis mengumpulkan sumber penulisan yaitu sumber primer seperti arsip, koran, dan wawancara, juga sumber sekunder seperti buku dan jurnal yang dapat diakses secara luring maupun daring. Setelah data terkumpul, data diverifikasi secara kritik intern maupun ekstern. Setelah mengetahui bahwa sumber itu autentik, maka selanjutnya diteliti apakah sumber itu dapat dipercaya. Selanjutnya adalah interpretasi dalam rangka menafsirkan berbagai sumber yang telah diuji keakuratannya. Penulis menguraikan sumber yang telah terverifikasi berdasarkan analisisnya, setelah itu disatukan. Tahap akhir dilakukan penulisan dalam bentuk skripsi. Penelitian ini disajikan secara deskriptif-naratif, dan sistematis dengan menguraikan bagaimana riwayat karier militer L. B. Moerdani dan prestasi yang ditorehkannya dalam rentang tahun 1945 sampai 1988. Kajian dalam skripsi ini membahas latar belakang L. B. Moerdani merintis karier di kemiliteran dengan bergabung dengan Tentara Pelajar di tahun 1945, mengikuti sejumlah operasi militer dalam kurun waktu 1949 hingga 1964, prestasinya di bidang militer yang mencakup penghargaan, kenaikan pangkat, menduduki sejumlah jabatan strategis, sampai ia diangkat menjadi Panglima Angkatan Bersenjata Republik Indonesia (ABRI) di tahun 1983. Selain itu juga dibahas mengenai pengangkatannya sebagai Panglima ABRI, pro dan kontra dari penunjukannya, pencapaian dari kebijakan-kebijakan yang ia keluarkan mencakup pengelolaan anggaran, komando kewilayahan, efisiensi unit kesatuan yang mencakup empat Angkatan Bersenjata yaitu Angkatan Laut, Angkatan Darat, Angkatan Udara, Kepolisian, dan juga pembenahan bidang pendidikan militer. Penulis juga membahas peristiwa-peristiwa maupun konflik yang ditangani oleh L. B. Moerdani dalam masa kerjanya sebagai Panglima ABRI, dan akhir karier kemiliterannya hingga tahun 1988. This thesis examines the career of Leonardus Benjamin Moerdani in the military field. This thesis research aims to find out how L. B. Moerdani’s career journey as a soldier, and what achievements LB Moerdani made during his career in the military from 1945 until 1988. The research method used in this study is the historical method, which consists of collection of sources (heuristics), source criticism (verification), interpretation (interpretation), and writing (historiography). In the first stage, namely heuristics, the author collects writing sources, namely primary sources such as archives, newspapers, and interviews, as well as secondary sources such as books and journals that can be accessed offline and online. After the data is collected, the data is verified by internal and external criticism. After knowing that the source is authentic, it is then examined whether the source is reliable. Next is interpretation in order to interpret various sources whose accuracy has been tested. The author describes the sources that have been verified based on their analysis, after which they are put together. The final stage is writing in the form of a thesis. This research is presented in a descriptive-narrative and systematic manner by describing the history of L. B. Moerdani's military career and its achievements in the range of 1945 to 1988. The study in this thesis explains about the background of L. B. Moerdani’s pioneering career in the military by joining the Student Army in 1945, following a number of military operations from 1949 to 1964, his achievements in the military field including awards, promotions, occupying a number of strategic positions, until he was appointed Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia (ABRI) in 1983. Apart from that, he also discussed his appointment as Commander of ABRI, the pros and cons of his appointment, the achievements of the policies he issued including budget management, regional command, efficiency of the unitary unit includes four Armed Forces, namely the Navy, Army, Air Force, Police, and also reforming the field of military education. The author also discusses events and conflicts handled by L. B. Moerdani during his tenure as ABRI Commander, and the end of his military career until 1988.
