Abstract
One of the teaching strategy is problem-based learning. The study was conducted in YPKS Cilegon Junior High School and it was held to see the benefits of this strategy. Through this research, the outcomes of learning mathematics through problem-based learning can be determined whether it can be applied to all levels of intelligence, or if this strategy works better only in several levels of intelligence. The study uses a treatment design by level 2 x 2 with two experiment classes, two classes as controllers, and samples taken from a affordable population that have been tested through statistical test, the distributed normal data, the homogeneity data from the same variance, and the equivalent research group in characteristics and study results. The results of the research in YPKS Cilegon Junior High students of 8th grade shows that students that used problem-based learning strategy had better learning outcomes than students that used conventional strategy. There is also correlation between the learning strategy with the level of intelligence. The outcomes of mathematics learning of students with superior and very superior level of intelligeence have better average score compared to students that used conventional learning strategy. But, inspite of the outcomes previously stated, the learners with average level of intelligence had lower learning outcomes compared to students with conventional learning as the strategy.
