Abstract

The objective of this research was to improve the students‟ reading comprehension in English language through Directed Reading Thinking Activity learning strategy. It was a mixed research with an action research method at State University of Jakarta. The research data were taken at the students of Music Art Department Faculty of Languages and Arts State University of Jakarta with 21 students and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively.The data were collected through observation, researcher and collaborator filed notes and achievement test. The data analysis and interpretation indicated that there is an improvement in students‟ reading comprehension. Quantitatively, it was found that the students‟ reading comprehension increased significantly from the first until second cycles. Therefore, it concluded that the students‟ reading comprehension can be improved by using Directed Reading Thinking Activity learning strategy.The findings lead to the recommendation for the lecturers to use Directed Reading Thinking Activity learning strategy as an alternative strategy in teaching reading comprehension. It is also recommended to other researcher to use this research for further reseach.
