Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kegiatan pendidikan dan pengkaderan Sutan Sjahrir serta dampak dari pendidikan dan pengkaderan yang diberikan kepada anggota Partai Sosialis Indonesia (PSI) dan masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah metode sejarah yaitu (1) pemilihan topik, (2) heuristik, (3) kritik sumber, (4) interpretasi, dan (5) historiografi. Penulisan ditulis secara kronologis dan memecahkan masalah penelitian terkait Peran Sutan Sjahrir dalam Pendidikan dan Pengkaderan di Indonesia pada tahun 1945-1966. Hasil penelitian ini disajikan dalam bentuk deskriptif-naratif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karir Sjahrir dalam pendidikan dan pengkaderan telah membawa banyak pengaruh baik bagi kehidupan politik dan kehidupan masyarakat di Indonesia. Perannya dalam pendidikan dan pengkaderan sudah terlihat sejak diasingkan pada tahun 1934 sampai tahun 1942. Sjahrir ikut serta dalam mendirikan sekolah sore dan melakukan kegiatan belajar mengajar dengan anak-anak di Banda Neira. Sjahrir mengajari mereka Bahasa Inggris, matematika, sejarah, surat-menyurat, dan pendidikan karakter. Sjahrir juga banyak menulis surat yang menunjukan ketertarikannya pada buku karya tokoh-tokoh Barat. Saat Sjahrir bebas dari pengasingannya, Sjahrir banyak mengadakan diskusi dengan kelompok pemuda sebagai langkah untuk mengkritisi kebijakan Jepang. Sjahrir membawa pengaruh dalam mencetak kader-kader dan pemuda yang terdidik dalam kurun waktu 1945 sampai Sjahrir meninggal pada tahun 1966. Sebagai ketua umum PSI, Sjahrir melakukan pendidikan dan pengkaderan di setiap cabang daerah dan mengadakan kursus yang membahas tentang politik, demokrasi, sosialisme. Sjahrir juga banyak mendidik masyarakat melalui artikel, manifes politik, diskusi, dan rapat politik. Pendidikan dan pengkaderan Sjahrir pada PSI mulai mengalami kemunduran sebagai partai politik ketika Pemilu 1955 berlangsung. Hasil Pemilu menyatakan bahwa PSI hanya berada pada peringkat ke-8 sehingga hanya sedikit kader PSI yang dapat menjadi DPR dan Dewan Konstituante. Peneliti juga mengulas peristiwa-peristiwa yang menyebabkan Sjahrir harus menerima keputusan pembubaran PSI. Sjahrir juga menjadi tahanan politik pada tahun 1962 sampai meninggal pada tahun 1966. Meskipun Sjahrir telah ditangkap dan PSI telah bubar, tetapi PSI cukup berhasil mencetak kader-kader yang berkualitas melalui pendidikan politik. Artikel surat kabar, pamflet, manifes politik seperti Perjuangan Kita yang ditulis Sjahrir ternyata mampu menggerakan pemuda untuk menjadi calon pemimpin. Selain itu kualitas intelektual PSI berhasil mencetak kader-kader yang mampu duduk di kursi parlemen saat Kabinet Natsir, Wilopo, Burhanuddin Harahap. This study aims to examine the educational and cadre activities of Sutan Sjahrir and the impact of the education and cadre provided to members of the community. The research method used in this study is the historical method, namely (1) topic selection, (2) heuristics, (3) source criticism, (4) interpretation, and (5) historiography. This study is written in chronological order and solves research problems related to Sutan Sjahrir’s role in education and cadre in Indonesia (1945-1966). The results of this study are presented in a descriptive- narrative form. The results showed that Sjahrir’s career in education and cadres had a lot of influence on both political life and people’s lives in Indonesia. Sjahrir’s role in education and cadre was evident from the time he was exiled in 1934 until 1942. Sjahrir participated in establishing an afternoon school and conducting teaching and learning activities with the children in Banda Neira. Sjahrir taught them English, mathematics, history, correspondence, and character education. Sjahrir also wrote many letters showing his interest in books by Western figures. When Sjahir was released from exile, Sjahrir held many discussions with youth Indonesian groups as a step to criticize Japanese policies. Sjahrir had a lot of influence in producing educated cadres and youths in the period 1945 until Sjahrir died in 1966. As the general chairman of PSI, Sjahrir conducted education and cadre in each regional branch and held courses on politics, democracy, socialism. Sjahrir also educates the public a lot through articles, political manifestos, discussions, and political meetings. Sjahrir’s education and cadre at PSI began to decline as a political party when the 1955 General Election took place. The election results stated that PSI was only ranked 8th so only a few PSI cadres could become DPR and Constituent Assembly. The researcher also reviews the events that caused Sjahrir to accept the decision to disband PSI. Sjahrir was also a political prisoner in 1962 until he died in 1966. Although Sjahrir had been arrested and PSI had disbanded, PSI was quite successful in producing quality cadres through political education. Newspaper articles, pamphlets, political manifestos such as Sjahrir’s Our Struggle were able to mobilize youth to become potential leaders. In addition, PSI’s intellectual quality has succeeded in producing cadres who are able to sit in parliamentary seats during the Natsir, Wilopo, and Burhanuddin Harahap Cabinets.
