Abstract

Pada musim pemilu, salah satu momentum penting bagi seorang politisi adalah pidato kemenangan dimana seorang politisi menyampaikan pesan kepada publik dan pendukungnya. Presiden terpilih Amerika Serikat Joe Biden baru-baru ini menyampaikan pidato kemenangannya di Delaware. Pidato politik yang disampaikan oleh Joe Biden adalah salah satu pidato yang paling menawan dan populer. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh pidato Joe Biden bedasarkan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Brown dan Levinson (1987). Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk menggali fungsi dari prinsip kesantunan serta wajah atau citra yang ditampilkan oleh Biden. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, sedangkan teknik pengumpulan datanya diperoleh melalui data transkripsi yang dianalisis melalui kata, klausa, atau kalimat. Dari 75 ucapan, Biden menggunakan 4 strategi utama, yaitu kesantunan positif (81,33%), bald on record (10,66%), off record (5,33%), dan kesantunan negatif (2,66%). Biden banyak melakukan strategi kesantunan positif dengan persentase yang sangat tinggi. Biden menjaga wajah positif audiens dan memuaskan keinginan pendengar karena kesantunan positif cenderung diterapkan dengan menetapkan solidaritas dan keramahan. Hal ini membuat audiens merasa senang dan menekankan bahwa kedua belah pihak memiliki tujuan yang sama. Selain itu, Biden cenderung memberikan kepercayaan kepada lawan bicaranya, menumbuhkan harapan dan sikap positif publik terhadap pemerintah. ******** In the election season, one of important momentums for a politician is a victory speech where a politician wants to give messages to the public and their supporters. The new president-elect of the United States Joe Biden recently made his victory speech in Delaware. The political speech delivered by Joe Biden is one of the most captivating and popular speeches. The purpose of this study is to find out the politeness strategy used by Joe Biden’s speech as proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987). In addition, this study also aims to explore the function of the politeness principles with the face or image displayed by Biden. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method, while the technique used for data collection is obtained through the transcription data which is analyzed through words, clauses, or sentences. Out of 75 utterances, Biden used 4 main strategies, namely positive politeness (81,33%), bald on record (10,66%), off record (5,33%), and negative politeness (2,66%). Biden does a lot of positive politeness strategies with a very high percentage. Biden is supposed to maintain the positive face of the audience and satisfy what the hearer's wants as positive politeness tends to apply by setting solidarity and friendliness. It makes the audience feel joy and emphasizing that both parties by having similar purposes. In addition, Biden tends to give confidence to the interlocutor, to foster hope and positive attitude of the audience towards the government.
