Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi dan internet pada era revolusi digital telah menawarkan banyak peluang baru dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Materi untuk kegiatan belajar mengajar di kelas, seperti buku digital, teks digital, video, situs web, dan bahan pembelajaran otentik telah banyak diadopsi dari sumber digital. Penggunaan bahan pembelajaran otentik di kelas telah terbukti dapat meningkatkan pemahaman dan kesadaran budaya pada siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan budaya yang terkandung dalam kartu ucapan otentik digital sebagai bahan ajar bahasa Inggris untuk SMP. Dengan metode analisis konten secara kualitatif, data dianalisis menggunakan kerangka dimensi budaya oleh Moran (2001) dan sumber budaya oleh Chao (2011). Hasil temuan menunjukkan terdapat 101 konten budaya dan 99 konten budaya yang masing-masing terklasifikasi dalam empat dimensi budaya dan tiga sumber budaya. Konten budaya sebagian besar teridentifikasi dalam Universalitas Lintas Budaya dan direpresentasikan oleh dimensi Praktik melalui aktivitas dan ekspresi bahasa yang muncul dalam teks. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar konten budaya direpresentasikan oleh tindakan dan interaksi, serta termasuk dalam konten universal yang tidak merujuk ke negara tertentu secara spesifik. ********** The developments of technology and the internet have offered new and numerous opportunities for teaching and learning. Materials for teaching and learning activities, such as e-books, digital texts, videos, websites, and authentic materials, have been widely adopted from digital sources. Using authentic materials is proven to increase students’ cultural awareness. However, there has been a small number of cultural content studies that specifically focus on non-textbooks EFL learning material. This study aims to discover the cultural contents in the digital authentic greeting cards as English teaching materials for junior high schools. The data are analyzed with the framework of the cultural dimensions by Moran (2001) and the cultural sources by Chao (2011) by using a qualitative content analysis method. The findings reveal 101 cultural contents that are classified in the four cultural dimensions and three sources of culture. The cultural contents are mostly identified in the Universality across Culture and represented by Practices dimension through activities and language expressions. It is indicated that a large proportion of the cultural contents are included in universal contents that are not specific to any particular country and represented by actions and interactions carried out by the cultural members.
