Abstract

The ways in which people communicate have changed drastically with the advent of emerging technology in the 21st-century. These developments have percolated into the classroom, modifying how students and teachers communicate. Hence, this study aimed to find out the extent to which communication skills are integrated into the “English in Public Speaking Discourse” syllabus and identify the syllabus components that have been integrated into communication skills. This study used qualitative content analysis as the design of the study. The data sources were the statements (words, phrases, and sentences) in the syllabus that indicate communication skills. In conducting this study, the indicators of communication skills is employed in the content analysis, which are consist of 12 out of 35 indicators. There are also 12 components of syllabus that found supported by the theory of syllabus in order to analyze the syllabus. It was found that 11 out of 12 indicators of communication skills were integrated into the syllabus, it encourages students to conveying thoughts and ideas effectively using oral communication skills, conveying thoughts and ideas effectively using nonverbal communication skills, employing a variety of media, employing a variety of technology, using communication to inform, using communication to convince, having the knowledge of the sounds and their pronunciation, knowing the way that meaning is conveyed through language, knowing how to use language appropriately depends on the topic, utilize the most appropriate communicative channel, and analyzing speech critically. Moreover, it turned out communication skills indicators appear to be integrated in 7 out of 12 components of syllabus, which are: Course Identification, Course Description, Learning Outcomes, Course Goal, Materials, Learning Methods, and Task Description. ************ Cara orang berkomunikasi telah berubah secara drastis dengan munculnya teknologi baru di abad ke-21. Perkembangan ini telah meresap ke dalam kelas, mengubah cara siswa dan guru berkomunikasi. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana keterampilan komunikasi diintegrasikan ke dalam silabus “English in Public Speaking Discourse” dan mengidentifikasi komponen-komponen silabus yang telah diintegrasikan ke dalam keterampilan komunikasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis isi kualitatif sebagai desain penelitian. Sumber data adalah pernyataan (kata, frasa, dan kalimat) dalam silabus yang menunjukkan keterampilan berkomunikasi. Dalam melakukan penelitian ini, indikator keterampilan komunikasi digunakan dalam analisis isi, yang terdiri dari 12 dari 35 indikator. Ada juga 12 komponen silabus yang ditemukan didukung oleh teori silabus untuk menganalisis silabus. Ditemukan bahwa 11 dari 12 indikator keterampilan komunikasi terintegrasi ke dalam silabus, mendorong siswa untuk menyampaikan pikiran dan gagasan secara efektif menggunakan keterampilan komunikasi lisan, menyampaikan pikiran dan gagasan secara efektif menggunakan keterampilan komunikasi nonverbal, menggunakan berbagai media, menggunakan berbagai teknologi, menggunakan komunikasi untuk menginformasikan, menggunakan komunikasi untuk meyakinkan, memiliki pengetahuan tentang bunyi dan pengucapannya, mengetahui cara makna disampaikan melalui bahasa, mengetahui cara menggunakan bahasa secara tepat tergantung pada topik, memanfaatkan saluran komunikatif yang paling tepat, dan menganalisis pidato secara kritis. Selain itu, ternyata indikator keterampilan komunikasi tampak terintegrasi dalam 7 dari 12 komponen silabus, yaitu: Identifikasi Mata Kuliah, Deskripsi Mata Kuliah, Capaian Pembelajaran Mata Kuliah (CPMK), Sub-CPMK, Materi, Kegiatan Pembelajaran (Metode), dan Deskripsi Tugas.
