Abstract

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief adalah fantasi novel series yang ditulis oleh Rick Riordan tahun 2005. Novel ini adalah novel pertualangan dengan menggabungkan kehidupan nyata dan mitos. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa representasi dari Dewa-Dewi Yunani terhadap pemimpin dunia Barat dengan menggunakan teori Representasi yang dicetuskan oleh Stuart Hall. Metode yang digunakan ialah qualitatif dengan mengambil data dari dialog antar tokoh maupun narasi yang terdapat dalam novel. Hasil yang didapat ialah 1) novel ini termasuk ke dalam “Quest Story,” 2). menggunakan mitologi untuk menggambarkan peristiwa alam yang terjadi bukan hanya saja sebagai kritik, 3) karakter Dewa-Dewi Yunani adalah penggambaran terhadap para pemimpin Amerika yang saat itu dipimpin oleh George W Bush, 4) Amerika merupakan sentral dari Peradaban Barat saat ini. Kata kunci: Mitologi Yunani, fenomena alam, Representasi, Pemimpin Amerika, Peradaban Barat ********* Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief Novel is a fantasy genre that written by Rick Riordan in 2005. It is kind of the Quest Novel that combined the real and secondary world. This purpose of this study is to analyze the representation of Western Government Rulers through Greek’s Gods and Goddesses using Representation Theory by Stuart Hall. The method that used is qualitative method with using the narratives and dialogues between characters. The results of this study are 1) It is kind of Quest Story, 2) it uses the mythology for explaining the natural phenomena, 3) Greek’s Gods and Goddesses are representation of America Rulers and at that time the government was ruled by George W Bush, 4) America becomes the central of Western Civilization.
