Abstract

Keterampilan komunikasi sangat berperan penting dalam aktivitas manusia sehari-hari termasuk dalam perjalanan udara, khususnya dalam hal keselamatan penerbangan. Pilot dituntut untuk berkomunikasi secara efektif dengan ATC karena mereka bertanggung jawab atas keselamatan penumpang. Komunikasi yang efektif antara Pilot dan ATC dapat dilakukan jika keduanya memiliki kemampuan komunikasi yang baik. Dalam industri penerbangan, baik Pilot maupun ATC diharuskan mencapai minimal International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) level 4 untuk mendapatkan izin kerja. Oleh karena itu, untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, peran bahan ajar sebagai sumber belajar bagi Pilot dan ATC sangat dibutuhkan. TLM (Teaching Learning Materials) secara luas diakui sebagai salah satu komponen terpenting dalam pengajaran bahasa untuk mendukung keberhasilan pembelajaran bahasa. TLM sangat penting untuk belajar mandiri serta guru dalam perencanaan pelajaran, membantu mereka dalam tugas profesional mereka, dan menggunakannya sebagai sumber daya untuk menjelaskan instruksi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki penggabungan keterampilan komunikasi dalam materi pembelajaran untuk siswa pilot dan menjelaskan cara keterampilan komunikasi dimasukkan dalam materi pembelajaran untuk pilot siswa. Penelitian ini juga dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis isi kualitatif, dimana peneliti menganalisis penggabungan keterampilan komunikasi yang diberikan dalam materi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris Penerbangan yang digunakan oleh siswa Pilot menggunakan 24 poin indikator sebagai instrumen penelitian ini. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan dari total 12 bahan ajar, 4 bahan ajar belum termasuk keterampilan komunikasi dan 7 bahan ajar sisanya termasuk keterampilan komunikasi. Materi pembelajaran yang digunakan oleh sekolah atau akademi penerbangan sebagian besar menggabungkan keterampilan komunikasi melalui kegiatan dalam bentuk instruksi dan konten karena keterampilan ini sangat penting bagi siswa Pilot. Keywords : Communication skills, effective communication, learning materials. *********** Communication skills plays so much important role in humans’ daily activities including in air travel, particularly in terms of aviation safety. Pilots are required to communicate effectively to the ATCs because they are responsible for the safety of the passengers. Effective communication between Pilots and ATC can be done if both have good communication skills. In aviation industry, both Pilots and ATC required reach a minimum of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) level 4 to get a work permit. Therefore, to achieve these goals, the role of learning materials as learning resources for Pilots and ATC is very much needed. TLM (Teaching Learning Materials) are widely acknowledged as one of the most important components in language teaching to support language-learning success. TLM is critical for self-study as well as teachers in lesson planning, assisting them in their professional duties, and using them as resources to describe instructions. This study aims to investigate the incorporation of communication skills in the learning materials for student Pilots and explain the ways communication skills is incorporated in learning materials for student Pilots. This study also conducted using qualitative content analysis, where the researcher analyzes the incorporation of communication skills provided in the Aviation English learning materials used by student Pilots using 24 point of indicators as this research instrument. This study’s findings shows from total 12 learning materials, 4 of them are not incorporated the communication skills and the rest 7 learning materials incorporated the communication skills. The learning materials used by flight schools or academies mostly incorporate communication skills through activities in the form of instructions and content because these skills are essential for student Pilots.
