Abstract

Studi ini menyelidiki bagaimana Lily dan Ryle, karakter dari novel It Ends With Us oleh seorang penulis Amerika, Colleen Hoover mengungkapkan gejala mereka sebagai seseorang dengan Gangguan Stres Pascatrauma. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif karena akan membahas salah satu fenomena yang digambarkan dalam sebuah novel. Penelitian ini menganalisis karakter dan penokohan serta perilaku mereka melalui kata-kata, kalimat dan dialog yang dipilih dari novel. Kriteria Scott dan Stradlings tentang seseorang dengan PTSD digunakan dalam studi untuk mengidentifikasi para karakter mengungkapkan gejala PTSD nya. Hasil penelitian dapat dirumuskan sebagai berikut. Pertama, penokohan dan penokohan kedua tokoh utama berperan penting dalam kajian untuk memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang kedua tokoh utama tersebut. Kedua, pengalaman traumatis mereka yang terungkap juga memainkan peran penting dalam menganalisis gangguan stres pasca-trauma mereka. Pengalaman traumatis, rasa sakit, dan kehilangan, dan emosi dari dua karakter utama di sini ditekan. Ekspresi mereka disimpan dalam ketidaksadaran mereka karena mereka tidak ingin mengingatnya lagi. Penindasan itu sendiri tidak menghilangkan rasa sakit dan emosi mereka, tetapi kemudian mengungkapkan masalah psikologis mereka melalui perilaku mereka. Perilaku tersebut, kemudian, membawa mereka ke gangguan stres pasca-trauma. Dengan mengaitkan perilaku mereka dengan gejala seseorang yang mengalami gangguan stres pascatrauma, peneliti menemukan empat kriteria minimum untuk Lily dan tiga kriteria minimum untuk Ryle yang sesuai untuk masing-masing perilaku mereka. Dengan demikian, peneliti akhirnya mengungkapkan kedua karakter utama, gangguan stres pasca-trauma Lily dan Ryle. *********** This study investigate how both Lily and Ryle, the characters from the It Ends With Us novel by an American author, Colleen Hoover revealing their symptoms of a person with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The method of the study is a descriptive qualitative method since it will discussing one phenomenon that depicted in a novel. The study analyzed the characters and characterizations as well as their behaviors through the words, sentences and dialouges that selected from the novel. Scott and Stradlings’ criteria of a person with PTSD was used to identify the characters PTSD’s symptom revelations. The result of the study can be formulated as follows. First, the character and characterizations of both the main character played an important role in the study to give a deeper understanding about the two main characters. Second, their traumatic experiences that reveal also played an important role in analyzing their post-traumatic stress disorder. The traumatic experience, the pains, and the loss, and the emotions of the two main characters here were repressed. Their expressions was kept inside their unconsciousness because they did not want to rememeber them anymore. The repression itself did not eliminate their pains and emotions, but it revealed their psychological problems later through their behaviors. Those behaviors, then, led them to the post-traumatic stress disorder. By relating their behaviors to the symptoms of someone who has a post-traumatic stress disorder, the researcher found four minimum criteria for Lily and three minimun criteria for Ryle that were appropriate each of their behavior. Thus, the researcher had finally reveal both of the main characters, Lily and Ryle’s post-traumatic stress disorder.
