Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan unsur-unsur patriotisme dalam novel Madame Thérèse karya Erckmann-Chatrian. Kategori unsur patriotisme bertumpu pada teori patriotisme oleh Félix: cinta tanah air (l’amour de la Patrie), hormat kepada tanah air (le respect de la Patrie), dan pelayanan terhadap tanah air (le service de la Patrie). Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis isi berpendekatan struktural karya sastra. Analisis dilakukan dengan memaparkan unsur-unsur intrinsik yaitu alur, penokohan, dan latar. Selanjutnya, mengidentifikasi dan menginterpretasikan data-data yang mengandung unsur patriotisme dalam bentuk kutipan berisi kata, frasa, kalimat, makna dan konteks dalam sumber data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 40 data dalam cerita yang mencerminkan unsur patriotisme: 21 kutipan memuat unsur pelayanan terhadap tanah air, 11 kutipan memuat unsur cinta tanah air, dan 8 kutipan memuat unsur hormat kepada tanah air. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa novel Madame Thérèse merepresentasikan unsur-unsur patriotisme. Unsur pelayanan terhadap tanah air memiliki jumlah terbanyak yang menunjukkan pengabdian untuk kepentingan publik dan pengorbanan untuk membela dan menyelamatkan tanah air. Unsur cinta tanah air ditemukan pada kutipan yang menunjukkan perasaan cinta, kagum, bangga terhadap tanah air. Unsur hormat kepada tanah air ditunjukkan melalui rasa hormat religius dan rasa hormat kepada tokoh atau pahlawan berjasa. The purpose of this research is to describe the elements of patriotism in the novel Madame Thérèse written by Erckmann-Chatrian. The elements of patriotism is attained by Félix’s theory of Patriotism: love for the homeland (l'amour de la Patrie), respect for the homeland (le respect de la Patrie), and service to the homeland (le service de la Patrie). This research is a qualitative research with content analysis method, with a literary structural approach. This analysis is accomplished by describing intrinsic elements such as plot, characters and setting. The next step is to identify and interpret the data of patriotism elements in the form of citations of words, phrases, sentences, with meanings and contexts contained in the novel. The result of this research showed that there are 40 datas that reflects the element of patriotism: 21 citations contain the elements of service to the homeland, 11 citations comprehend the elements of love for the homeland, and 8 citations comprehend the elements of respect for the homeland. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that the novel Madame Thérèse represents the elements of patriotism. The element of service to the homeland has the highest number which shows the devotion for the public interest and sacrifices to defend and save the homeland. The element of love for the homeland is found in citations that shows the feeling of love, admiration, and even pride for the homeland. The element of respect for the homeland is shown through respects religion and also shown by respecting the heroes who has contributed.
