Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kehidupan empat keluarga Betawi di Kelurahan Tengah, Kecamatan Kramat Jati, Jakarta Timur dan mengetahui bentuk budaya kemiskinan yang mereka miliki, serta implikasi yang diakibatkan karena masih terus dilestarikannya budaya kemiskinan dari generasi ke generasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Oscar Lewis yakni budaya kemiskinan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Subjek penelitian adalah empat keluarga Betawi yang berada di Kelurahan Tengah, Kecamatan Kramat Jati, Jakarta Timur. Teknik pengumpulan data didapat dengan cara studi pustaka, wawancara secara mendalam serta observasi terhadap keadaan tempat tinggal, lingkungan sekitar, dan respon informan ketika memberikan jawaban. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa masih terdapat keluarga Betawi di Kelurahan Tengah yang memiliki budaya kemiskinan baik pada level Individu yang terlihat pada dimilikinya sifat mengandalkan orang lain, mudah putus asa, dan tidak percaya diri. Sedangkan pada level keluarga terlihat pada tidak diperhatikannya masa depan dan tumbuh kembang anak. Kemudian pada level komunitas terlihat pada tidak adanya akses peminjaman uang ke bank, tinggal di pemukiman padat penduduk dan tidak ikut serta pada komunitas berbasis etnis Betawi. Hal-hal tersebut diwariskan secara turun-temurun yang kemudian berimplikasi pada penghidupun keluarga Betawi yang serba pas-pasan, tidak memiliki pekerjaan yang tetap, terpinggirkan dan tidak mampu bersaing dengan para pendatang. Adapula yang hidup berkecukupan karena masih memiliki lahan kontrakan yang cukup banyak namun masih memiliki budaya kemiskinan. The purpose of this study to describe the live of four Betawi families in Kelurahan Tengah, Kecamatan Kramat Jati, East Jakarta and know the shape of their culture of poverty, As well as the implications caused by the continued preservation of the culture of poverty from generation to generation. This study uses the concept of Oscar Lewis theory that is the culture of poverty. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach to the type of case study research. The subject of this research are four Betawi families located in Kelurahan Tengah, Kecamatan Kramat Jati, East Jakarta. Data collection techniques in this study were obtained by way of literature study, in-depth interviews and observations of the state of residence, the environment, and the response of informants when providing answers. The results of this study show there are still Betawi families in Kelurahan Tengah who have a culture of poverty both at the individual level which look at the nature of relying on others, easily discouraged, and not confident. While at the level of the family they are lose to the future of the children. Then at the community level most prevalent in the absence of access to the bank, living in densely populated settlements and not participating in ethnic Betawi-based communities. Thesee lead from generation to generation which implicate the Betawi family life, do not have a fixed job, being marginalized and unable to compete with the newcomers. Dispute one of Betawi family living in wealth economic condition because he has a lot of rented house but still can’t dismissed the poverty culture.
