Abstract

Modality is a word, phrase, or clause that expresses the speaker's attitude in a statement or the author's attitude in a piece of writing. The use of these modalities is studied through discussion texts on Indonesian subjects in class VIII. Whereas research on modalities uses news text sources more than discussion texts. To take advantage of the use of modalities as one of the linguistic characteristics that can be studied in news texts, it is necessary to study the modalities contained in news texts. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of language and the meaning of intentional modalities, epistemic modalities, deontic modalities, and dynamic modalities contained in the corona virus pandemic news text on the online news media Kompas.com. This research is a qualitative research with content analysis method. Based on the research results, the types of modalities in the corona virus pandemic news text consist of intentional modalities, epistemic modalities, deontic modalities, and dynamic modalities. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the intentional modality 'want' consists of the words ingin, akan, hendak, and bakal. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the intentional modality 'hope' consists of the words harap, berharap, diharapkan, and mudah-mudahan. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the intentional modality of 'invitation' consists of the words mengimbau, diimbau, and mengeluarkan imbauan. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the intentional modality of 'request' consists of the words minta and meminta. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the epistemic modality of 'possibility' consists of the words dapat and tidak mungkin. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the epistemic modality of 'prediction' consists of the words menduga, diduga, kabar, dikabarkan, and diperkirakan. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the epistemic modality of 'must' consists of the words harus, mesti, perlu, and tak perlu. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the epistemic modality of 'certainty' consists of the words pasti, dipastikan, memastikan, yakin and percaya. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the deontic modality of 'permission' is expressed by the word boleh. The form of language that expresses the meaning of the deontic modality of 'command' consists of the words harus, perintahkan, melarang, dilarang, jangan, tidak boleh, and enggak boleh. The form of language that expresses the meaning of dynamic modality 'ability' consists of the words dapat, bisa, mampu, belum dapat, and belum bisa. ************ Modalitas adalah kata, frasa, atau klausa yang mengungkapkan sikap pembicara dalam suatu pernyataan atau sikap penulis dalam suatu tulisan. Penggunaan modalitas dipelajari melalui teks diskusi pada mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia di kelas VIII. Padahal penelitian mengenai modalitas lebih banyak menggunakan sumber teks berita dibandingkan teks diskusi. Untuk memanfaatkan penggunaan modalitas sebagai salah satu ciri linguistik yang dapat dipelajari dalam teks berita perlu dilakukan kajian terhadap modalitas yang terdapat dalam teks berita. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan bentuk bahasa dan makna modalitas intensional, modalitas epistemik, modalitas deontik, dan modalitas dinamik yang terdapat dalam teks berita pandemik virus corona pada media berita daring Kompas.com. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, jenis modalitas dalam teks berita pandemik virus corona terdiri atas modalitas intensional, modalitas epistemik, modalitas deontik, dan modalitas dinamik. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas intensional ‘keinginan’ terdiri atas kata ingin, akan, hendak, dan bakal. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas intensional ‘harapan’ terdiri atas kata harap, berharap, diharapkan, dan mudah-mudahan. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas intensional ‘ajakan’ terdiri atas kata mengimbau, diimbau, dan mengeluarkan imbauan. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas intensional ‘permintaan’ terdiri atas kata minta dan meminta. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas epistemik ‘kemungkinan’ terdiri atas kata dapat dan tidak mungkin. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas epistemik ‘keteramalan’ terdiri atas kata menduga, diduga, kabar, dikabarkan, dan diperkirakan. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas epistemik ‘keharusan’ terdiri atas kata harus, mesti, perlu, dan tak perlu. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas epistemik ‘kepastian’ terdiri atas kata pasti, dipastikan, memastikan, yakin dan percaya. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas deontik ‘izin’ diungkapkan dengan kata boleh. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas deontik ‘perintah’ terdiri atas kata harus, perintahkan, melarang, dilarang, jangan, tidak boleh, dan enggak boleh. Bentuk bahasa pengungkap makna modalitas dinamik ‘kemampuan’ terdiri atas kata dapat, bisa, mampu, belum dapat, dan belum bisa.
