Abstract
***** The increasing of economic growth in Jakarta evoked the prosperity of its citizen which subsequently would lead to the consumption behaviors of such population for goods and services. Ecological footprint is a quantitative tool for assessing how much resources required supporting an individual or population as well as the services needed to assimilate waste in term of land. Social factors, such as gender, is known as a crucial factor that cause the consumption pattern of individuals is vary considerably. This research was aimed to determine the effect of gender on ecological footprint of students at senior high school in Jakarta. EF was calculated from 82 students enrolled in Al-Izhar High School which comprise both males and females. This study was conducted from September to October 2014. Transportation, goods, waster, water, and electrical power were taken into account. The finding indicated that there was no significantly difference between males and females based on their total ecological footprint value. However, the breakdown of ecological footprint value into several components demonstrated electrical power was component which exclusively influenced by gender. The similarity of ecological footprint between males and females demonstrate that there is a pivotal role of gender equality in formulating consumption behaviors of students in Al- Izhar High School.
