Abstract

Portofolio yang merupakan kumpulan tugas siswa telah menjadi alternatif dalam penilaian dan evaluasi pembelajaran karena portofolio dapat menggambarkan pencapaian belajar siswa yang sesungguhnya. Portofolio baru diterapkan dalam mata kuliah Work Experience 1 yang bertujuan mempersiapkan mahasiswa menjadi guru Bahasa Inggris profesional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi persepsi mahasiswa terhadap penggunaan portofolio dalam mata kuliah WE-1 tersebut. Peneliti memilih 18 orang mahasiswa yang mengikuti mata kuliah WE-1 sebagai subjek penelitian dan mewawancara lima orang dosen pengampu mata kuliah tersebut. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh dari kuesioner, wawancara, dan dokumen portofolio mahasiswa, dapat diketahui bahwa mahasiswa memiliki persepsi positif dan negatif terhadap penggunaan portofolio di kelas WE-1. Mereka menilai bahwa proses penggunaan portofolio belum optimal karena adanya ketidakkonsistenan dari mahasiswa dan juga dosen. Hal itu meliputi adanya beberapa mahasiswa yang tidak serius dalam mengerjakan tugas portofolio dan tidak mengumpulkannya tepat waktu. Mahasiswa juga menilai dosen kurang memberi pengawasan terhadap pengerjaan portofolio dan kurang memberi feedback terhadap tugas yang telah mereka kumpulkan. Bahkan beberapa mahasiswa (17%) mengaku bahwa mereka menjiplak pekerjaan portofolio teman. Kendati demikian, penggunaan portofolio mempunyai keuntungan bagi mahasiswa, antara lain meningkatkan kemampuan berefleksi, kecakapan menulis, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Hasil penelitian ini dapat memberikan gambaran agar adanya perbaikan dan peningkatan dalam penggunaan portofolio. Perencanaan yang matang serta komitmen dari mahasiswa dan dosen sangatlah diperlukan untuk keberhasilan penggunaan portofolio sebagai instrumen penilaian dan evaluasi belajar. A portfolio containing a student‟s tasks collection has become an alternative assessment in learning since it can demonstrate the actual achievements of the student. The use of the portfolio is newly implemented in the Work Experience 1 course preparing the students to be the professional English teachers. This study aimed to find out the students‟ perceptions towards the use of the portfolio assessment (PA) in the WE-1 course. It involved eighteen students taking the course as the subjects of the study. Five lecturers teaching the course were also interviewed. Based on the data gathered from the questionnaires, interviews, and students‟ portfolio documents, it was found out that the students revealed positive and negative perceptions towards the use of the PA in the WE-1 course. They perceived that the process of the use of the PA in the course was not optimal yet since there were some inconsistencies, both from the students to do and to submit the portfolio on time, and from the lecturers to supervise and to assess the students‟ portfolio. The students revealed that they got less feedback for what they had done in their portfolio. Moreover, some of the students (17%) admitted that they copied their peers‟ works when compiling the portfolio. Nevertheless, the students could gain some benefits of using the PA, such as improving their reflection ability, their writing skills, and their critical thinking. The results of the study can be a reflection for the improvement of the portfolio implementation. It needs a good planning and the commitment both from the students and the lecturers to make the use of the portfolio assessment more meaningful and successful.
