Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis majas dan citraan panca indera yang digunakan dalam lirik lagu Coldplay, terutama dalam album A Head Full of Dreams pada tahun 2015. Penulis juga mengungkapkan arti tersirat dari majas dan citraan panca indera dalam lirik lagu Coldplay. Penulis teori bahasa kiasan dan citraan panca indera Arp & Johnson (2012) sebagai alat menganalisis majas dan citraan panca indera di lirik lagu. Metode konten analisis digunakan penulis untuk menganalisis data penelitian dalam lirik lagu Coldplay seperti kata kata, frasa, klausa dan kalimat yang mengandung majas atau citraan panca indera. Penemuan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 43 majas dalam lirik lagu Coldplay dalam album A Head Full of Dreams pada tahun 2015. Dari 43 majas, ada 22 metafora (51.1%), 8 hiperbola (18.6%), 6 simbol (13.9%), 4 simile (9.3%), 2 personifikasi (4.6%) dan 1 irony (2.3%). Metafora adalah majas yang paling sering digunakan dalam lirik lagu Coldplay dengan persentase (51.1%). Dengan menggunakan metafora, penulis mengungkap ide tentang perasaan untuk mantan istri dan wanita baru yang ia cintai, juga tentang harapan dalam hidup untuk para pendengar agar selalu bersyukur, beriman dan selalu berjuang untuk bisa hidup lebih baik meskipun dalam kesukaran. Sementara itu, untuk hasil peneltiaan citraan panca indera, penulis menemukan bahwa terdapat 67 citraan panca indera dalam lirik lagu Coldplay di album A Head Full of Dreams pada tahun 2015. Dari 67 citraan panca indera, terdapat 51 citraan penglihatan (76.1%), 13 citraan perasaan (19.4%), 2 citra perabaan (2.9%) dan 1 citra gerak (1.4%). Citraan penglihatan adalah citraan yang paling sering digunakan dalam lirik lagu Coldplay dengan persentase (76.1%) sebagai cara yang efektif untuk menggambarkan situasi dan perasaan dari penulis sehingga pesan dapat tersampaikan. Majas dan citraan panca indera dalam lirik lagu Coldplay di album A Head Full of Dreams berperan penting untuk memperindah lirik, artian dan menyampaikan pesan. This research is to analyze kinds of figurative language and imagery that Coldplay mostly used in their song lyrics, especially in A Head Full of Dreams album. The writer also figures out the implied meaning of figurative language and imagery in Coldlay’s song lyrics. The writer used the theory of Figurative language and Imagery by Arp & Johnson (2012) as a tool to analyze Figurative language and Imagery in Coldplay’s song lyrics. Content analysis method is used to analyzes the data of the study, such as words, phrase, clause and sentences of lyrics that contain Figurative language and Imagery. The findings showed that there were 43 figurative language, comprises of 22 Metaphor (51.1%), 8 Hyperbole (18.6%), 6 Symbol (13.9%), 4 Simile (9.3%), 2 Personification (4.6%) and 1 irony (2.3%). Metaphor is the most dominant figurative language that is used in Coldplay’s song lyrics with percentage (51.1%). By using metaphor, the songwriters deliver the idea of love toward his ex-wife and his new woman and also hope to encourage the listener to always strive for a better life, to be grateful and be in faith even in the middle of the rough. Meanwhile, in Imagery, the findings reveal that there were 67 imagery in Coldplay’s song lyrics in A Head Full of Dreams album on 2015, comprises of 51 Visual Imagery (76.1%), 13 Organic Imagery (19.4%), 2 Tactile Imagery (2.9%) and 1 kinesthetic imagery (1.4%). Visual imagery is the most dominant in Coldplay’s song lyrics with percentage (76.1%) as an effective way to deliver the messages through a depiction of the ambience and feelings of the songwriter. Figurative language and imagery in Coldplay’s song lyrics plays an important roles in beautifying the lyrics, the meaning and deliver the messages.
