Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memodifikasi thin film dari kristal cair atau mesogen reaktif (RM257) dengan PMMA menggunakan metode UV Curing. Radiasi sinar UV mempelopori pembentukan polimer jaringan melalui penambahan inisiator Benzoil Peroksida (BPO). Polimerisasi dilakukan pada suhu 125oC selama 10 menit. Thin film dipolimerisasi dengan variasi persen massa RM257 yaitu sebesar 15%, 20%, 25% dan 30%. Karakteristik polimer/RM yang dihasilkan diselidiki menggunakan beberapa instrumen yaitu FTIR, XRD dan SEM. Hasil karakterisasi FTIR memvalidasi hilangnya ikatan rangkap –CH2 (Vinyl) monomer RM257 dan Metil Metakrilat, sedangkan hasil karakterisasi XRD mengidentifikasi fasa yang terbentuk yaitu amorf * The purpose of this study was to modify thin films from liquid crystals or reactive mesogen (RM257) with PMMA using UV Curing method. UV radiation pioneered the formation of network polymers through the addition of benzoyl peroxide (BPO) initiator. Polymerization was carried out at 125oC for 10 minutes. The thin film was polymerized with a mass percent variation of RM257 are 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%. The characteristics of the polymer/RM produced were investigated using several instruments are FTIR, XRD and SEM. The results of FTIR characterization validated the loss of double bonds –CH2 (Vinyl) monomer RM257 and Methyl Methacrylate, while the results of XRD characterization identified the amorphous phase formed.
