Abstract

Pemphis acidula is a common minor mangrove in tropic. Its population has decline trend in nature caused of mangrove area degradation and unsustainable exploitation. Conservation is one of the effort to prevent this condition become worse. Floral biology is an important aspect in conservation. This aspect can describe pollination strategy or population development and their relationship with floral visitors. The study aims to observe the duration of blooms and anthesis, nectar volume and concentration, diurnal flower visitors, and pollination success of Pemphis acidula. The research was conducted in Untung Jawa Island and General Biology Laboratory at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Descriptive methode and observation technique used in this reaserch. The results showed P. acidula bloomed for a day with protogynous diurnal anthesis. Average nectar volume from flowers bloomed for 12 hours is 0,92 ± 0,13 µl/flower and concentrations ranged from 60— 7% Brix. The flowers are visited by two species of passerine birds and 23 species of insects. Cinnyris jugularis, Xylocopa, and Catopsilia pomona are the most common flower visitors. The result showed flower visitor were not significance to pollination service.
