Abstract

Bahasa merupakan bagian terpenting dalam berkomunikasi, baik verbal maupun tulisan. Bahasa juga merupakan bagian dari budaya yang merepresentasikan masing-masing individu atau suatu wilayah dan tentunya akan berbeda pada tiap wilayah tersebut. Perbedaan itu menimbulkan satu istilah penting dalam komunikasi yaitu adanya bahasa lokal yang belum tentu muncul di daerah yang lain. Bahasa lokal sering terjadi pada tingkat kata atau yang disebut istilah daerah atau istilah lokal. Dalam hal ini, penerjemahan berperan sangat aktif dalam meluruskan perbedaan-perbedaan tersebut. Penelitian ini membahas tentang bagaimana menerjemahkan istilah lokal kedalam bahasa yang lebih dimengerti oleh masyarakat luas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana proses penerjemahan istilah lokal; dari mengetahui karakteristik istilah lokal itu hingga bagaimana proses dan alasan penerjemahannya. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada teori deskriptif analisis dengan cara mendeskripsikan istilah lokal yang ada dalam kedua novel, lalu menganalisisnya guna mengetahui proses penerjemahannya. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan Newmark sebagai dasar acuan karakteristik istilah-istilah yang mengandung budaya lokal. Terdapat 56 istilah yang ada dalam novel ini dan terbagi dalam 5 kategori yakni 8 istilah atau 14% yang termasuk dalam kategori ecology. 23 istilah atau 41% yang termasuk material culture. 11 istilah atau 20% yang termasuk ke dalam kategori social culture. 13 istilah atau 23% yang termasuk dalam organization, custom, activities, procedures, concepts. 1 istilah atau 2% yang termasuk dalam golongan tingkah laku dan kebiasaan umum. Lalu pada proses penerjemahan terdapat persebaran yang cukup merata yaitu, penerjemahan dengan menggunakan penafsiran tanpa menggunakan kata terkait sebanyak 18 kata atau 32%, penerjemahan dengan menghilangkan kata yaitu 14 kata atau 25 %, 10 kata atau 18 % dengan menggunakan dengan meminjam kata dari bahasa sumber dan ditambahkan dengan penjelasan, terjemahan menggunakan kata yang lebih general sebanyak 6 kata atau 11 %, sementara penerjemahan dan tafsiran disertai kata terkait sebanyak 4 kata atau 7 % dan penerjemahan menggunakan kata-kata budaya pada bahasa target sebanyak 3 kali atau 5%. Seara umum, penerjemah sering menerjemahkan istilah-istilah lokal berdasarkan konteks kalimat, sehingga tidak sedikit istilah yang dihilangkan maupun hanya mempertahankan istilah asli, meskipun begitu, penerjemah juga menambahkan keterangan pada beberapa istilah Language is the important thing in communication weather in spoken, reading and or writing. Language is also a part of culture, representing the people or societies of every region and every region always have their own culture. That is why the differences in language often became a serious problem in communication. In written text translation plays an important role in solving this problem. The problem is often happen in word level called Local cultural terms. This research talks about the process of translating Local Cultural Terms in Hirata’s Rainbow Troops. This research aims to find out how the local cultural terms translated in the target language; knowing the characterization of Local Cultural Terms and the process of the translation. This research is using descriptive analysis which is describing the local cultural terms in the novels and analyzing translation based on the theory to find out the process of the translation. This research uses Newmark theory to deal with the characteristic of the cultural terms. The data is 56 Local Culture terms so the percentage of each category are 8 terms or 14 % of ecology, 23 terms or 41 % of material culture, 11 terms or 20 % of social culture, 13 terms or 23 % of organization, custom, activities, procedures, concepts , and 1 terms or 2 % of gestures and habits. To answer the main question of this study, the writer use Baker theory to analyze the process of the translation. There are 6 strategies which are used in translating this novel. The first strategy is paraphrasing using unrelated word which is 18 terms or 32 %, second is omission which is 15 times or 27 %, next is using a loan word plus explanation as 10 times or 18 %, and then translating using more general word as 6 times or 11 %, while paraphrasing using related word as 7 % or 4 times and cultural substitution as 3 times or 5%. The translator often translating the terms based on context, if the terms are not very important word, she omitted the term. There were some cultural terms which were omitted, but it is covered by some words that already exist in the sentence. However, the translator often maintained the target language and giving the explanation afterwards to make the reader understand the meaning of the sentence. she also keep the source term if there is no equal word or terms in the target language, but she still gave the addition by using description as the explanation. The translator still thinks about the reader who do not familiar with some local cultural terms.
