Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan, yang pertama untuk mendeskripsikan keberadaaan mamak kanduang di dalam struktur keluarga Minangkabau, dan yang kedua mendeskripsikan peran mamak kanduang dalam struktur keluarga pada lima anggota Persatuan Keluarga Silungkang.Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus. Data ini diperoleh dengan cara wawancara mendalam, observasi, studi kepustakaan dan dokumentasi. Penelitian berlangsung sejak Mei hingga November 2022, dengan jumlah informan 5 anggota Persatuan Keluarga Silungkang, dan 1 Ketua Persatuan Keluarga Silungkang periode 2019-2022. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori peran milik Bruce Biddle dalam menganalisis fenomena yang terjadi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa laki-laki Minang yang sudah dewasa memiliki dua peranan yang linier, yaitu menjadi seorang ayah sekaligus menjadi seorang mamak. Pada Keluarga batih, laki-laki Minang akan berperan sebagai ayah, sedangkan pada keluarga ibunya ia akan berperan sebagai mamak terhadap kemenakannya (anak dari saudara perempuannya). Peranan ayah dalam keluarga batih di nagari Silungkang ialah membesarkan seorang anak, dan kemudian peranan tersebut akan dipindah tangankan kepada mamak jika anak tersebut telah mencapai usia matang untuk menikah. Pada kenagarian Silungkang peranan mamak kanduang yaitu menjaga kesejahteraan famili dan bertanggung jawab dalam perjodohan dari kemenakannya. Realisasi peranan mamak dalam menjaga kesejahteraan famili saat ini masih berjalan dengan baik, namun realisasi peranan mamak dalam perjodohan kemenakannya kini telah memudar akibat adanya islamisasi dan modernisasi, yang kemudian akan terjadi perubahan pada peran mamak. Kata Kunci: Peran, Mamak, Mamak Kanduang, Perantauan ABSTRACT This research has two purposes, the first is to describe the position of mamak kanduang in the Minangkabau family structure, and the second is to describe the role of mamak kanduang in the family structure of the five members of the “Perantauan Keluarga Silungkang”.The research was conducted with a qualitative approach using the case study method. This data was obtained by means of in-depth interviews, observation, literature study and documentation. The research took place from May to November 2022, with a total of 5 informants who were members of the Silungkang Family Association, and 1 Chairperson of the Silungkang Family Association for the 2019-2022 period. This study uses Bruce Biddle's role theory to analyzing the phenomena that occur. The results of this study indicate that adult Minang men have two linear roles, being a father and as well as being a mamak. In the nuclear family, a Minang man will play the role of father, while in his mother's family he will play the role of mamak to his nephew (child of his sister). The role of the father in the nuclear family in Nagari Silungkang is to raise a child, and then this role will be transferred to the mamak if the child reaches the ripe age to marry. In the Silungkang village, the role of the mamak kanduang is to look after the welfare of the family and to be responsible for the arranged marriages of their nephews. The realization of the role of the mamak in maintaining the welfare of the family is currently still going well, but the realization of the role of the mamak in the matchmaking of her nephew has now faded due to Islamization and modernization, which will then change the role of the mamak.
