Abstract

Sampah masih menjadi permasalahan yang ada di Indonesia karena sampai saat ini sampah masih belum teratasi secara efektif. Sampah organik dapat dijadikan sebagai pakan ternak, salah satu hewan yang diketahui dapat memakan sampah organik adalah bekicot (Achatina fulica Ferussac, 1821). Bekicot memiliki manfaat salah satunya kandungan kitin yang terdapat pada cangkang. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh dari pemberian pakan berupa sampah organik terhadap kandungan dan kualitas kitin dari cangkang bekicot. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental dengan desain penelitian Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL). Kelompok perlakuan terdiri dari empat kelompok di antaranya K1 (Kelompok sawi hijau), K2 (Kelompok kacang panjang), K3 (Kelompok kulit melon) dan Kontrol (tidak mendapat perlakuan). Data berupa karakteristik kitin dan kitosan dianalisis secara deskriptif sedangkan data bobot cangkang dianalisis ragam Anova satu arah (α<0,05) dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan menggunakan software SPSS 25. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kitin memiliki warna putih kecokelatan dan tidak berbau. Rendemen yang dihasilkan sebesar 42-50%, kadar air 0,2%, kadar abu 3,5-4,0%, serta kelarutan 50-65%. Kitosan menghasilkan warna putih kecokelatan dan tidak berbau. Rendemen 97-98%, kelarutan 70-75%, dan derajat deasetilasi sebesar 53,7% untuk kelompok sawi hijau, kacang panjang 57,2%, kulit melon 56,3% serta kontrol 55,2%. Getaran gugus OH berada pada panjang gelombang 3399-3413 cm-1, sementara getaran gugus C=O yang menunjukkan amida berada pada panjang gelombang 1788 cm-1. Organic waste can be used as animal feed, one of the animals known to eat organic waste is the snail (Achatina fulica Ferussac, 1821). Snails have benefits, one of which is the chitin content found in the shell. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine whether there is an effect of feeding in the form of organic waste on the content and quality of chitin from snail shells. The research method used was experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment group consisted of four groups including K1 (Chinese mustard group), K2 (Long bean group), K3 (Melon peel group) and Control (untreated). The data in the form of chitin and chitosan characteristics were analyzed descriptively while the shell weight data were analyzed in one way ANOVA (α<0.05) and continued with Duncan's test using SPSS 25 software. The results showed that chitin has a white-brown color and has no odor. The resulting yield is 42-50%, 0.2% moisture content, 3.5-4.0% ash content, and 50-65% solubility. Chitosan produces a brownish white color and is odorless. The yield was 97-98%, the solubility was 70-75%, and the degree of deacetylation was 53.7% for the mustard greens, long beans 57.2%, melon skin 56.3% and control 55.2%. The vibration of the OH group is at a wavelength of 3399-3413 cm-1, while the vibration of the C=O group indicating amide is at a wavelength of 1788 cm-1.
