Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui alasan kelompok Kuli Sindang tetap bertahan dengan pekerjaannya serta strategi bertahan hidup kelompok Kuli Sindang yang ada di Pondok Kelapa, Jakarta Timur. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Jalan Pondok Kelapa Raya, Jakarta Timur. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil di dalam penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa para Kuli Sindang tersebut tetap bertahan karena tidak memeliki keahlian atau skill lainnya, serta terlalu konservatif untuk berani keluar dari rutinitas kerja yang ada, para Kuli Sindang tersebut juga memiliki beberapa strategi yang di gunakan untuk terus bertahan hidup. Dalam penelitian ini dapat di simpulkan bahwa tidak adanya skill dan kemamupan lain para kuli sindang menjajadi alasan mereka tetap bertahan dengan perkerjannya serta strategi yang di gunakan para Kuli Sindang untuk bertahan hidup yaitu dengan cara: 1) strategi aktif, strategi aktif para Kuli Sindang dengan cara mengoptimalkan kemmapuan yang dimiliki; 2) strategi pasif, strategi pasif para Kuli Sindang dengan cara hidup hemat; dan 3) strategi jaringan, strategi jaringan para Kuli Sindang dengan cara berhutang atau meminjam. ***** This study aims to find out the reasons why the Coolie Sindang group persisted with their work and the survival strategies for the Coolie Sindang group in Pondok Kelapa, East Jakarta. This research was conducted at Jalan Pondok Kelapa Raya, East Jakarta. The research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results in this study found that the Sindang coolies survived because they did not have any other expertise or skills, and were too conservative to venture out of the existing work routine. The Sindang coolies also had several strategies they used to continue to survive. In this study, it can be concluded that the lack of skills and other abilities of the coolies is the reason they persist with their work and the strategy used by the Sindang coolies to survive is by: 1) active strategy, the active strategy of the Sindang coolies by means of optimizing the capabilities possessed; 2) passive strategy, the passive strategy of the Kuli Sindang by living frugally; and 3) network strategy, the network strategy of the Kuli Sindang by way of debt or borrowing.
