Abstract

Penelitian sebelumnya telah menganalisa judul artikel penelitian berdasarkan pembentukan struktur dari judul-judul tersebut menggunakan sistem transitivity oleh Halliday. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa fungsi-fungsi dan aspek-aspek yang terdapat pada judul artikel penelitian berdasarkan sistem transitivity oleh Halliday. Judul artikel penelitian yang diambil sebagai sampel adalah dari 20 artikel penelitian dari jurnal TESOL Quarterly dan TESOL Journal yang diterbitkan pada tahun 2018, dengan 10 artikel penelitian dari masing-masing jurnal. Peneliti menganalisa data dengan pendekatan langkah-demi-langkah yang menghasilkan penemuan sebagai berikut: (1) Terdapat dua fungsi utama dalam pernyataan judul, yaitu topic dan method. (2) Aspek-aspek dari topic adalah area, dimension, dan concept. Aspek-aspek dari method adalah action,dan respondent. (3) Perbedaan yang terdapat antara dua journal tersebut ada pada pernyataan ciri leksikogrammatikal dalam merepresentasikan concept dan action. - Previous studies have examined research article titles based on the structural construction of the titles using Halliday’s transitivity system. This study aims to analyse the functions and aspects stated in research article titles based on Halliday’s transitivity system. The research article titles sampled for this study as data are taken from 20 research articles of TESOL Quarterly and TESOL Journal, which were published in 2018, with 10 titles from each journal. The researcher took a step-by-step approach in analysing the titles which resulted in the following findings: (1) There are two main functions in the stating of the title, which are the topic and the method. (2) The aspects of the topic include the area, dimension, and the concept. The aspects of the method include the action and the respondent. (3) The difference between the two journals is in the stating of the lexicogrammatical features representing the concepts and the actions.
