Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada penggambaran krisis identitas yang dialami oleh tokoh utama dalam novel All the Bright Places karya Jennifer Niven dengan menggunakan tahapan perkembangan Erik H. Erikson. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis atau interpretasi materi tertulis dalam konteks dengan menggunakan kritik sastra psikologis, dengan mengimplementasikan konsep krisis identitas Erik Erikson pada tokoh utama novel All the Bright Places karya Jennifer Niven. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Violet dan Finch menghadapi krisis yang berbeda selama masa hidup mereka dan keduanya mengalami krisis identitas pada masa remaja. Selain itu, kesehatan mental dan lingkungan sosial berperan penting dalam menentukan bagaimana Violet dan Finch mengatasi krisis identitas mereka. ***** This study focuses on the depiction of identity crisis underwent by the main characters in the novel All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven by using Erik H. Erikson’s stages of development. This study applies a qualitative approach to research as this study focuses on the analysis or interpretation of the written material in context by using psychological literary criticism, implementing Erik Erikson’s concept of identity crisis on the main characters of Jennifer Niven’s All the Bright Places. This study found that Violet and Finch faces different crisis during their lifetime and both experience identity crisis in their adolescence. Furthermore, mental health and social surrounding plays a significant role in determining how Violet and Finch overcome their identity crisis.
