Abstract

Bagian pendahuluan dalam artikel penelitian sangat penting karena bagian itu menarik minat pembaca untuk membaca artikel secara menyeluruh dan juga merupakan bagian pertama dari artikel yang akan dilihat oleh pembaca. Studi ini menguji kata kerja laporan di bagian pendahuluan dari 36 artikel penelitian tentang pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang ditulis oleh penulis Indonesia di tiga jurnal terakreditasi tinggi. Studi ini menggunakan analisis kuantitatif komparatif untuk mengetahui kata kerja laporan yang paling sering ditemui dalam artikel tersebut dan fungsi dari masing-masing kata kerja laporan, dengan menggunakan kerangka dari Friginal (2013). Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa kata kerja argumentasi merupakan verba laporan yang paling sering ditemui di antara kata kerja lainnya. Kemudian diikuti oleh kata kerja penunjuk, penemu, dan berpikir. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa penulis Indonesia sering merujuk pada studi sebelumnya untuk menyajikan argumen mereka, memberikan bukti, dan tidak hanya memberi pemikiran atau keyakian sendiri. Studi ini dapat digunakan sebagai panduan informasi oleh penulis, pelajar, guru, ataupun peneliti, ketika membuat pendahuluan yang kredibel pada artikel penelitian dan juga memberikan wawasan baru tentang syarat yang harus dipenuhi untuk memasukkan artikel ke dalam jurnal yang terindeks oleh SINTA.*****The introduction section of a research article is critical because they pique the readers’ interest in reading the complete article and also it is the first part of the research article that the readers will see. This study examined the reporting verbs in an introduction section of 36 English Language Teaching research articles written by Indonesian authors on three high-ranking journals. This study used a comparative quantitative analysis to find out the most frequently reporting verbs found in those articles and the function of each reporting verb, by using the framework from Friginal (2013). The results revealed that argue verbs were the most frequent reporting verbs among other reporting verbs on three high-ranking journals. Then, it was followed by show verbs, find verbs, and the last frequent was think verbs. This study indicates that Indonesian authors often refer to previous studies to present their arguments and provide the evidence for their research article and not only put their own personal thoughts or beliefs. This study can be used as a guide of information by writers, students, teachers, researchers when creating a credible research article introduction and also give a new insights on what qualifies as a proper introduction for an Indonesian high-ranking journal indexed by SINTA.
