Abstract

Penyediaan media pembelajaran yang mendukung siswa dengan nilai, sikap, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan diperlukan untuk mempersiapkan mereka menghadapi tantangan abad ke-21. Kompetensi kewarganegaraan sebagai kemampuan yang membutuhkan nilai, sikap, pengetahuan, dan keterampilan dapat dimasukkan ke dalam media pembelajaran seperti podcast. Selain digunakan untuk membekali siswa dengan kompetensi kewarganegaraan, podcast juga dapat membantu siswa untuk mendapatkan pengetahuan dan meningkatkan keterampilan mereka terkait materi bahasa Inggris, termasuk teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kompetensi kewarganegaraan dalam podcast untuk teks deskriptif kelas tujuh Sekolah Menengah Pertama. Analisis konten digunakan sebagai metode penelitian untuk menganalisis delapan podcast yang dipilih berdasarkan kerangka kerja yang diadopsi dari Council of Europe's Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) (Barrett et al., 2019), Brown and Abeywickrama (2010), dan The PodCred framework (Tsagkias et al., 2008). Temuan menunjukkan bahwa semua podcast menggabungkan kompetensi kewarganegaraan dengan sikap keterbukaan sebagai penggabungan tertinggi (33%), diikuti dengan menghargai keragaman budaya (17%), sikap tanggung jawab (17%), menghargai demokrasi, keadilan, keadilan, kesetaraan dan supremasi hukum (8%), rasa hormat (8%), self-efficacy (8%), dan toleransi ambiguitas (8%). Sayangnya, menghargai martabat dan hak asasi manusia dan sikap pemikiran sipil tidak ditemukan di antara delapan podcast ini. Kedelapan podcast tersebut juga memuat komponen teks deskriptif yang terdiri dari konten, organisasi, tata bahasa, dan kosa kata. Temuan penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi rekomendasi bagi guru untuk memilih podcast sebagai media pembelajaran pengajaran teks deskriptif dan sekaligus membekali siswa dengan kompetensi kewarganegaraan. ***** Provision of learning media that supports students with values, attitudes, knowledge, and skills is required to prepare them to face the challenges of the 21st century. Citizenship competencies as an ability that requires values, attitudes, knowledge, and skills can be incorporated into learning media such as podcast. Apart from being used to equip students with citizenship competencies, podcasts also can help students to gain knowledge and improve their skills related English materials, including descriptive text. This study aims to describe citizenship competency in the podcast for the descriptive text of seventh-grade junior high schools. Content analysis is used as a research method to analyze eight podcasts selected based on framework adopted from Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) (Barrett et al., 2019), Brown and Abeywickrama (2010), and The PodCred framework (Tsagkias et al., 2008). The findings show that all podcasts incorporate citizenship competencies with the attitude of openness as the highest incorporation (33%), followed by valuing cultural diversity (17%), attitude of responsibility (17%), valuing democracy, justice, fairness, equality and the rule of law (8%), respect (8%), self-efficacy (8%), and tolerance of ambiguity (8%). Unfortunately, valuing human dignity and rights and the attitude of civic mindedness are not found among these eight podcasts. The eight podcasts also contain the component of descriptive text consisting of content, organization, grammar and vocabulary. The findings of this study are expected to be a recommendation for teachers to choose podcasts as a learning medium for teaching descriptive texts and simultaneously equipping students with citizenship competencies.
