Abstract

Media massa merupakan alat untuk menyampaikan suatu informasi. Salah satu contoh media massa adalah situs berita. Pada penulisan berita ada yang menggunakan eufemisme, yang makna digunakan untuk menghaluskan kata yang kasar atau yang kurang enak didengar. Eufemisme ini bisa memunculkan makna yang berbeda dari makna yang sebenarnya dan fungsi penggunaan yang berbeda pula. Dengan demikian peneliti bermaksud meneliti mengenai penggunaan jenis-jenis eufemise, makna, dan fungsi penggunaannya dalam berita ekonomi di situs Republika bulan Mei 2022. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Fokus pada penelitian ini adalah menganalisis penggunaan eufemisme pada berita ekonomi di situs Republika bulan Mei 2022. Oleh karena itu, metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis isi (Content Analysis). Secara garis besar, ditemukan penggunaan 11 jenis eufemisme dari 19 jenis yang ada. Jenis makna yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah makna referensial, sedangkan jenis makna yang paling sedikit digunakan adalah makna konotatif dan asosiatif. Fungsi dari penggunaan eufemisme yang ditemukan diantaranya yaitu, fugsi untuk menghaluskan ucapan, untuk berdiplomasi, dan untuk pendidikan. In news writing, some use euphemisms, where meanings are used to soften words that are harsh or unpleasant to hear. This euphemism can bring out a meaning that is different from the actual meaning and has a different function of use. Thus the researcher intends to examine the use of the types of euphemisms, their meanings, and the functions of their use in economic news on the Republika website in May 2022. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The focus of this research is to analyze the use of euphemisms in economic news on the Republika website in May 2022. Therefore, the data analysis method used is content analysis. In general, 11 of the 19 types of euphemisms used were found. The type of meaning that is most commonly found is referential meaning, while the type of meaning that is least used is connotative and associative meaning. The functions of the use of euphemisms found include the function of smoothing speech, for diplomacy, and for education. Keywords: semantics, euphemism, function of euphemism
