Abstract

***** This research aims to design and develop a shadow defect practical tool using the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The tool is designed with attention to the needs of students and is intended for use in the Basic Physics II laboratory. In the Define stage, literature reviews and field studies were conducted to identify student needs for the tool's development plan. Next, the Design stage resulted in initial design drawings that included various components of the practical tool, as well as feasibility testing instruments and user trials. During the Develop stage, the practical tool was constructed, tested by experts and users, and subsequently evaluated and revised. Finally, the Disseminate stage involved providing the tool to the Basic Physics practicum at Universitas Negeri Jakarta for use in Basic Physics II practical sessions. Laboratory-scale tests demonstrated a correlation between practical work and the theory of shadow defects, while feasibility tests indicated that the developed tool is highly suitable for practical use. User trials confirmed that the developed practical tool is better and easier to understand. Therefore, the shadow defect practical tool developed meets the needs and can be effectively used in Basic Physics II practical sessions. This research is expected to serve as a reference for the development of other practical tools based on more active and accessible learning principles.
