Abstract
*****ABSTRACT***** This study delves into the dynamic realm of wasei eigo within the specialized language of golf in Japan, aiming to uncover its usage patterns, diverse forms, and shifts in meaning. Drawing on theories by Shibasaki et al. (2007), Tsujimura (2014), and Irwin (2011), with a descriptive qualitative approach enriched by equivalence analysis method. Findings reveals 28 wasei eigo terms in Japanese golf terminology. The formation of these terms includes compounding (12 instances), borrowing (8 instances), affixation (2 instances), and clipping (1 instance). 3 instances of changes in part of speech are also found, mainly changes from nouns into verb. Additionally, the study also reveals types of grammatical semantic (19 instances) and lexical semantics (9 instances), and changes in meaning such as semantic narrowing, expansion, and even amelioration. Typologically, the wasei eigo forms exhibit a rich tapestry of variation, including imizure-gata (6 instances), junwasei-gata (4 instances), eigohyougenfuzaigata (4 instances), tanshuku-gata (1 instance), and various combinations thereof (13 instances).
