Abstract

*****ABSTRAK***** Skripsi ini menganalisa kelayakan penerjemahan simile di novel, The Rainbow Troops yang merupakan versi terjemahan dari novel Indonesia yaitu Laskar Pelangi dengan menggunakan kerangka kritik penerjemahan Katharina Reiss. Skripsi ini meneliti 61 simile yang telah diterjemahkan dari Teks Sumber ke Teks Sasaran demi menentukan apakah simile yang telah diterjemahkan layak dalam segi tipologi teks, elemen linguistik, determinan ekstra-linguistiknya. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 23 dari 61 simile yang diterjemahkan telah memenuhi unsur kebahasaan dan determinan ekstra-linguistik teks sumbernya, sehingga mencapai kelayakan penuh sedangkan 35 dari 61 simile terjemahan hanya berhasil memenuhi sebagian unsur kebahasaan atau/dan tambahan -penentu linguistik teks sumber sehingga hanya mencapai kelayakan sebagian. Sebaliknya, 3 dari 61 perumpamaan yang diterjemahkan gagal memenuhi sebagian besar atau salah satu unsur linguistik dan/atau determinan ekstralinguistik sehingga dianggap terjemahan yang tidak layak. *** *****ABSTRACT***** This paper analyses the appropriateness of Simile translation in the novel The Rainbow Troops, the English version of the Indonesian novel, Laskar Pelangi by employing Katharina Reiss's framework of translation criticism. This study examines 61 similes that have been translated from the Source Text to the Target Text to determine whether the translated similes are appropriate in terms of their text typology, linguistic elements, and extra-linguistic determinants. The result found that 23 out of 61 of the translated similes have fulfilled the linguistic elements and extra-linguistic determinant of its source text, thus achieving full appropriateness while the other 35 out of 61 translated similes only manage to fulfill some of the linguistic elements or/and extra-linguistic determinant of the source text thus only achieving partial appropriateness. On the other hand, the remaining 3 out of 61 translated similes failed to fulfill most or any of the linguistic element and/or extra-linguistic determinants and thus are considered inappropriate translations.
