Abstract
The Fault in Our Stars karya John Green melalui kacamata teori psikoanalitik. **** This thesis examines the concept of codependency among cancer victims in John Green's novel The Fault in Our Stars through the lens of psychoanalytic theory. By analyzing the characters' psychological states and interactions, the study highlights the impact of cancer on interpersonal relationships. The research employs Freud's defence mechanism and Kohut's theory of self-psychology to explore how characters, driven by their emotions and psychological conditions, develop codependent relationships and transform into characters. The study delves into the dynamics between Hazel Grace, a terminal lung cancer patient, and Augustus Waters, a cancer survivor, illustrating their emotional reliance on each other. Additionally, the thesis investigates the codependency of parents and caregivers, whose lives become intertwined with their children's needs. This comprehensive analysis offers insights into the intricate emotional and mental landscapes shaped by terminal illness and underscores the broader implications of codependency within these relationships.
