Abstract

*********************************** Nickel dibromide NiBr2 monolayer has been considered as promising materials candidate for spintronic applications due their crystal, electronic, and magnetic structure. Application of an external electric field to control electrical and magnetic properties is extremely important for spintronic device application. In this study, the first principle of non-collinearity was calculated using density functional theory (DFT) to investigate the effect of spin-orbit interaction and external electric field on the NiBr2 monolayer. This shows that the spin-orbit interaction reduces the energy gap at point Γ and indicates that there is a transition from an indirect semiconductor to a metal and it removes the magnetic properties by applying an external electric field. Furthermore, spin splitting was found after combining spinorbit interactions and electric fields. Our findings suggest that spin-orbit interactions and external electric fields play an important role in the material properties of NiBr2 monolayers, especially for designing spintronic devices.
