Abstract

Data leakage at the National Data and Statistics Center (PDNS) is a serious issue that raises public concerns about information security in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze the government's communication strategy in handling the data leak crisis using the Image Repair Theory (IRT) approach. This research uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method of 37 news videos from the KompasTV YouTube channel, which identifies and categorizes government statements in 14 IRT sub-strategies. The results showed that the four most dominant strategies were Corrective Action, Defeasibility, Good Intentions, and Bolstering. Corrective Action emerged as the main strategy, reflecting the government's commitment to improve the situation. Meanwhile, Defeasibility was used to shift responsibility for the leakage incident to external factors. Good Intentions emphasized the government's good intentions in protecting public data, and Bolstering reinforced the government's positive image by highlighting previous successes. The findings demonstrate the importance of implementing proactive and transparent communication strategies in building public trust during a crisis. This research provides valuable insights for crisis communication practices in the public sector and opens up opportunities for further research into government communication management in the future.
