Abstract
This research is motivated by the need for environmentally friendly brake canvas materials and the utilization of wood sawdust, coconut fibers and green shells which have not been widely applied. This study aims to determine the microstructure, the coefficient of friction and the hardness properties of the brake canvas material made from wood dust, coconut fibers and shells. This research is using experimental method. The parameters to be used are the microstructure, the coefficient of friction and hardness and using sem test equipment, the coefficient of friction and Vickers. Brake canvas used specimen R60SKY20K20CK0 (60% Resin, 20% wood powder, fiber Coconut 20 and 0% conch shell), R50SKY20K20CK10 (50% Resin, 20% wood Powder, fiber Coconut 20% and 10% conch shell), R40SKY20K20CK20 (40% Resin , 20% wood powder, 20% fiber coconut and 20% conch shells). The results showed that the composition of sawdust, coconut fibers and shells influenced the microstructure, the coefficient of friction and Vickers. Dense microstructure is found in R40SKY20K20CK20 specimen. And the greatest coefficient value is in the R40SKY20K20CK20 specimen which is 0.42. And the greatest hardness value is in the R40SKY20K20CK20 specimen which is 33.36. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi kebutuhan material kanvas rem ramah lingkungan dan pemanfaatan limbah serbuk kayu, serabut kelapa dan cangkang kerang hijau yang belum banyak diaplikasikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur mikro, koefisien gesek dan sifat kekerasan bahan kanvas rem berbahan serbuk kayu, serabut kelapa dan cangkang kerang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen. Parameter yang akan digunakan adalah struktur mikro, koefisien gesek dan kekerasan dan menggunakan alat uji sem, koefisien gesek dan Vickers. Kanvas rem yang digunakan spesimen R60SKY20K20CK0 (Resin 60%, Serbuk kayu 20%, Kelapa 20 dan cangkang kerang 0%), R50SKY20K20CK10 (Resin 50%, Serbuk kayu 20%, Kelapa 20 dan cangkang kerang 10%), R40SKY20K20CK20 (Resin 40%, Serbuk kayu 20%, Kelapa 20 dan cangkang kerang 20%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa komposisi serbuk kayu, serabut kelapa dan cangkang kerang mempengaruhi struktur mikro, koefisien gesek dan Vickers. Struktur mikro yang padat terdapat pada spesimen R40SKY20K20CK20. Dan nilai koefisien terbesar ada pada spesimen R40SKY20K20CK20 yaitu 0,42. Dan nilai kekerasan terbesar ada pada spesimen R40SKY20K20CK20 yaitu 33,36. Kata kunci : Kanvas rem, Cangkang Kerang Hijau, Kanvas Sepeda Motor Listrik.
