Abstract

Fenomena typing “ganteng” merupakan gaya mengetik yang rapi, tidak menyingkat kata, menggunakan tanda baca yang tepat, serta mengikuti kaidah bahasa Indonesia yang baik dan benar. Gaya ini banyak digunakan oleh Generasi Z dalam interaksi digital, terutama pada platform WhatsApp. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana Gen Z memaknai dan mengimplementasikan gaya typing “ganteng” dalam komunikasi sehari-hari. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan metode fenomenologi, yang menggali pengalaman subjektif informan melalui wawancara mendalam dan observasi partisipatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa typing ganteng bukan hanya ekspresi estetika komunikasi, tetapi juga bentuk etika digital, representasi profesionalisme, serta strategi pembentukan identitas sosial dalam ruang maya. Gen Z menyadari pentingnya pemilihan kata dan penggunaan tanda baca sesuai konteks, serta menyesuaikan gaya bahasa mereka terhadap audiens yang berbeda latar belakang. Dengan demikian, typing ganteng menjadi bentuk komunikasi simbolik yang merepresentasikan nilai dan norma baru dalam budaya digital generasi muda. Kata Kunci: Gen Z; Typing Ganteng; WhatsApp ***** The phenomenon of "typing ganteng" refers to a neat and proper typing style that avoids abbreviations, uses correct punctuation, and follows the rules of standard Indonesian language. This style is widely adopted by Generation Z in digital interactions, particularly on platforms like WhatsApp. This study aims to understand how Gen Z interprets and implements the "typing ganteng" style in their daily communication. A qualitative approach was employed using a phenomenological method, exploring the informants' subjective experiences through in-depth interviews and participant observation. The findings reveal that typing ganteng is not merely an aesthetic expression of communication, but also a form of digital etiquette, a representation of professionalism, and a strategy for constructing social identity in the digital space. Gen Z demonstrates an awareness of word choice and punctuation based on context, adapting their language style according to the background of their audience. Thus, typing ganteng becomes a form of symbolic communication that reflects emerging values and norms in the digital culture of today’s youth. Keywords: Gen Z; Typing Ganteng; WhatsApp
