Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh physical appearance comparison terhadap body dissatisfaction yang dimoderasi oleh self-compassion pada wanita emerging adulthood pengguna Instagram. Partisipan penelitian berjumlah 278 orang, ditentukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Seluruh partisipan adalah perempuan berusia 18-25 tahun yang aktif menggunakan Instagram dan mengakses platform tersebut minimal satu jam per hari. Data dikumpulkan secara daring melalui Google Form. Variabel body dissatisfaction diukur menggunakan alat ukur Body Dissatisfaction Scale for Women (BDS-W) dari Tariq & Ijaz (2015), sedangkan variabel physical appearance comparison diukur menggunakan Physical Appearance Comparison Scale – Revised (PACS-R) dari oleh Schaefer & Thompson (2014). Kedua instrumen telah diadaptasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Sementara itu, variabel self-compassion diukur menggunakan Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) dari Neff (2003) yang telah diadaptasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia oleh Sugianto dkk. (2020), serta dinamai menjadi Skala Welas Diri (SWD). Uji hipotesis dalam penelitian ini menggunakan PROCESS Macro Hayes pada software IBM SPSS versi 27. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa physical appearance comparison berpengaruh positif terhadap body dissatisfaction (β = 0,882; p < 0,05), sedangkan self-compassion berpengaruh negatif terhadap body dissatisfaction (β = –5,583; p < 0,05). Namun, self-compassion tidak memoderasi hubungan antara physical appearance comparison dan body dissatisfaction (β = –0,114; p > 0,05). Artinya, hubungan antara physical appearance comparison dan body dissatisfaction tetap konsisten, baik pada individu dengan self-compassion tinggi maupun rendah. ***** This study aims to examine whether there is an effect of physical appearance comparison on body dissatisfaction, moderated by self-compassion, among emerging adulthood women who use Instagram. A total of 278 participants were selected using purposive sampling. All participants were women aged 18–25 years who actively use Instagram and access the platform for at least one hour per day. Data were collected online via Google Form. The variable of body dissatisfaction was measured using the Body Dissatisfaction Scale for Women (BDS-W) by Tariq & Ijaz (2015), while physical appearance comparison was measured using the Physical Appearance Comparison Scale – Revised (PACS-R) by Schaefer & Thompson (2014). Both instruments were adapted into Indonesian. Meanwhile, self-compassion was measured using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) developed by Neff (2003), which had been previously adapted into Indonesian by Sugianto et al. (2020) and renamed as the Skala Welas Diri (SWD). Hypothesis testing was conducted using PROCESS Macro by Hayes in IBM SPSS version 27. The results showed that physical appearance comparison had a positive effect on body dissatisfaction (β = 0,882; p < 0,05), while self-compassion had a negative effect on body dissatisfaction (β = –5,583; p < 0,05). However, self-compassion did not moderate the relationship between physical appearance comparison and body dissatisfaction (β = –0,114; p > 0,05). This indicates that the relationship between physical appearance comparison and body dissatisfaction remains consistent, regardless of whether individuals have high or low levels of self-compassion.
