Abstract
***** Negative attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help are still commonly found, particulary in communities with low awareness of the importance of mental health. Limited mental health literacy often becomes a barrirer for individuals in making the decision to seek professional help. This study aims to examine the effect of mental helath literacy on attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help among emerging adults in Jeneponto Regency. This research employed a quantitative approach using a correlational survey method. The sample consisted of 262 emerging adults aged 18 – 40 years, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Multicomponent Mental Helath Literacy Measure and the Attitudes Toward Seeking Professional Psychological Help – Short Form (ATSPPH – SF). The results of regression analysis showed no significant effect mental health literacy on attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help (p = 0,115 > 0,05). These findings indicate that although most respondents had high levels of mental help literacy, it was not sufficient to foster positive attitudes toward help – seeking. Othes factors, such as social norms and traditional cultural values, are premused to play a role in shaping these attitudes. Keywords: mental health literacy, help-seeking attitudes, emerging adulthood.
