Abstract
***** This study aims to explore the lives of individuals in depth, especially survivors of self-injury behavior related to the forms, causal factors, impacts (physical, psychological, social, emotional, and academic), as well as inhibiting and supporting factors of self-injury behavior. This study involved one male informant selected based on his experience as a survivor of self-injury behavior. In addition to having experience of self-injury behavior, the informant is also a man who shows feminine characteristics where the informant's way of expressing his emotions is by engaging in self-injury behavior. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique. The approach used was a qualitative approach with a case study research method. Data were collected using interview and observation techniques and the tools used were interview guidelines and observation guidelines. The technique used to check the validity of the data in this study was using source triangulation techniques involving three supporting informants from close friends of the main informant. The results of the study indicate that self-injury behavior arises due to the inability to use adaptive coping strategies and difficulty expressing one's feelings. Psychosocial factors and internal and external pressures also trigger this behavior. Forms of self-injury include cutting, hitting oneself, and isolating oneself, which result in physical injuries, psychological trauma, and disrupted social relationships. Informants predominantly use emotion-focused maladaptive coping that hinders the recovery process, influenced by past trauma, family pressure, and financial constraints. However, social support, positive self-talk, spiritual coping, and life motivation are supporting factors in moving away from self-injury behavior and toward more adaptive coping. In addition, this study also produced 12 thematic findings related to the informant's current condition, the informant's condition at that time, the informant's focus on the problem, forms of self-injury, views of oneself, views of others, expectations held, treatment experienced, the impact of self-injury behavior, factors inhibiting the informant, assessments of supporting informants towards the main informant, and factors supporting the informant. These findings emphasize that if there are tendencies of characteristics with the same issue, then the guidance and counseling teacher can take preventive measures by guiding and helping students to understand themselves in coping with stress according to their personality. In addition, BK teachers can also provide services such as classical guidance and group guidance with a mental health theme.
