Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas proses transformasi Kereta Rel Listrik (KRL) di wilayah Daerah Operasional 1 Jakarta pada periode 1976–2015. Transformasi tersebut dilatarbelakangi oleh meningkatnya kebutuhan mobilitas akibat pertumbuhan penduduk dan urbanisasi di wilayah Jabodetabek, serta kondisi KRL yang semakin memburuk, baik dari segi sarana, prasarana, maupun layanan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sejarah dengan tahapan heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Transformasi KRL difokuskan pada tiga aspek utama: pembaruan sarana KRL melalui pengadaan unit baru,buatan dalam negeri, dan impor bekas dari Jepang; perbaikan prasarana seperti elektrifikasi dan persinyalan; serta nperubahan layanan melalui peningkatan kualitas pegawai dan edukasi terhadap npengguna jasa. Hasil dari transformasi ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam efisiensi, kenyamanan, dan keamanan layanan KRL di Jabodetabek. Studi ini juga menyoroti peran penting Jepang dalam mendukung transformasi KRL Indonesia serta tantangan yang dihadapi dalam pengembangan teknologi kereta buatan dalam negeri.***** This research examines the transformation process of Electric Rail Trains (KRL) in Jakarta Operational Area 1 during the period 1976–2015. This transformation was driven by the increasing need for mobility due to population growth and urbanization in the Greater Jakarta area, as well as the deteriorating condition of the KRL, both in terms of facilities, infrastructure, and services. This research uses a historical method with the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The KRL transformation focuses on three main aspects: upgrading KRL facilities through the procurement of new, domestically manufactured units,and used imports from Japan; infrastructure improvements such as electrification and signaling; and service changes through improving employee quality and educating service users. The results of this transformation demonstrate significant improvements in the efficiency, comfort, and safety of commuter line services in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek). This study also highlights Japan's critical role in supporting Indonesia's commuter line transformation and the challenges faced in developing domestically manufactured train technology.
