Abstract
Baja merupakan salah satu paduan logam yang banyak digunakan serta peran berperan penting dalam berbagai macam industri seperti otomotif, pertambangan, konstruksi, dan manufaktur karena memiliki berbagai sifat mekanik yang berguna seperti kekerasan, keausan, serta mudah dimodifikasi sesuai penggunaannya melalui proses perlakuan panas. Pada penelitian ini membahas hardening proses quenching dengan waktu tahan 30 dan 60 menit dengan media air serta di lanjutkan proses tempering dengan variasi waktu tahan 30 dan 60 menit dengan material baja AISI 1045. Hasilnya proses quenching menghasilkan struktur martensit dengan morfologi jarum halus dan padat. Semakin lama waktu tahan, struktur martensit yang terbentuk menjadi lebih homogen dan rapat. Proses tempering setelah quenching yang dilakukan menyebabkan perubahan martensit menjadi tempered martensit. Semakin lama waktu tempering, semakin banyak karbon berdifusi keluar dari martensit dan membentuk karbida halus. Hasil pengujian kekerasan AISI 1045 meningkat tajam setelah proses quenching, dari sekitar 205 HVN menjadi 603 HVN dan 669 HVN. Setelah proses tempering, kekerasan pada tiap spesimen menurun hingga kisaran 536–575 HVN. Hasil pengujian keausan QH30 menurun menjadi 4,4760317×10⁻⁷ mm³/mm setelah proses quenching, lanjut menurun pada QH30-TH30 namun meningkat setelah tempering pada QH30-TH60. Pada QH60 menjadi 3,7468183×10⁻⁷ mm³/mm, lalu QH60-TH30 dan QH60-TH60 terus meningkat setelah semakin lama waktu tempering. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan dan pengujian dapat disimpulkan bahwa perlakuan panas quenching dan tempering baja AISI 1045 dengan variasi waktu tahan dapat memberikan pengaruh terhadap struktur mikro, nilai kekerasan, dan nilai laju keausan. Kata kunci : Baja, Kekerasan, Keausan, Quenching, Struktur mikro, Tempering. ***** Steel is one of the most widely used metal alloys and plays an important role in various industries such as automotive, mining, construction, and manufacturing due to its advantageous mechanical properties, including hardness, wear resistance, and its ability to be modified through heat treatment processes. This study examines the hardening process of quenching with waktu tahans of 30 and 60 minutes using water as the quenching medium, followed by tempering with waktu tahans of 30 and 60 minutes on AISI 1045 steel. The quenching process resulted in the formation of martensitic microstructures with fine and dense needle-like morphology. Longer waktu tahans produced a more uniform and refined martensit structure. Subsequent tempering transformed the martensit into tempered martensit. Increasing the tempering duration promoted greater carbon diffusion out of martensit, leading to the formation of fine carbides. The hardness of AISI 1045 increased significantly after quenching, from approximately 205 HVN to 603 HVN and 669 HVN. After tempering, the hardness decreased to the range of 536–575 HVN. The wear test results show that the wear rate of the QH30 specimen decreased to 4.4760317 × 10⁻⁷ mm³/mm after quenching, further decreased in QH30-TH30, but increased after tempering at QH30-TH60. In the QH60 specimen, the wear rate decreased to 3.7468183 × 10⁻⁷ mm³/mm, while QH60-TH30 and QH60-TH60 experienced increased wear rates with longer tempering durations. Based on the observations and test results, it can be concluded that the quenching and tempering heat treatment with varying waktu tahans significantly influences the microstructure, hardness, and wear resistance of AISI 1045 steel.
