Abstract

The long-term use of synthetic ingredients in cosmetics can negatively impact skin health, leading to a growing demand for safe, practical, and natural skincare products. Seawed (Eucheuma spinosum.) is an abundant biological resource in Indonesia, rich in bioactive compounds with significant potential for cosmetic applications. This study aims to formulate a seaweed extract (Eucheuma spinosum.) as a natural active ingredient in peel-off gel mask and to assess their physical quality according to the standards set by SNI 16-4380-1996 and SNI 16-4399-1996, as well as to gauge panelist preference levels. The research utilized a laboratory experimental method, employing seaweed extract obtained through 96% ethanol maceration at three concentration levels: F1 (3 g), F2 (5 g), and F3 (7 g). Evaluations of physical quality included organoleptic properties, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, viscosity, stability, and hedonic assessment. The results indicated that all formulations met the criteria for high physical quality, exhibiting a pH consistent with skin pH (4,5-6,5), homogeneity, compliant spreadability (5-7 cm), viscosity within standard ranges (5,183-6,017 cPs), drying times in accordance with spesifications (18-22 minutes), and stability during storage. According to the hedonic test, formula 1 was the most preffered by panelists, who judged it to have superior quality and characteristics.
