Abstract
Penelitian ini menganalisis dinamika spasiotemporal tingkat kekritisan lingkungan di Kota Medan selama periode 2014–2024, yang dipengaruhi oleh laju urbanisasi yang cepat dan peningkatan degradasi lingkungan. Pendekatan kuantitatif spasiotemporal digunakan dengan menerapkan metode Environmental Criticality Index (ECI). ECI dihitung berdasarkan empat parameter biofisik yang diturunkan dari citra Landsat 8, yaitu Suhu Permukaan Tanah (LST), Indeks Vegetasi (NDVI), Indeks Lahan Terbangun (NDBI), dan Modifikasi Indeks Badan Air (MNDWI), untuk tahun 2014, 2019, dan 2024. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya tren peningkatan tingkat kekritisan lingkungan di Kota Medan. Tren ini tercermin dalam: (1) peningkatan signifikan suhu permukaan tanah (LST) rata-rata, dari 30,24°C pada tahun 2014 menjadi 33,34°C pada tahun 2024; dan (2) penurunan kerapatan vegetasi, yang dibuktikan dengan perluasan wilayah dengan nilai NDVI rendah dari 8.112,14 ha menjadi 9.598,34 ha. Analisis spasial mengungkapkan bahwa wilayah dengan tingkat kekritisan lingkungan tertinggi (Kritis dan Sangat Kritis) didominasi di bagian tengah dan selatan kota, mencakup Kecamatan Medan Kota, Medan Area, dan Medan Johor. Temuan ini menegaskan adanya kekritisan lingkungan akibat perubahan penggunaan lahan dan memberikan dasar data penting untuk acuan pengelolaan lingkungan secara berkelanjutan di Kota Medan. Kata Kunci: Environmental Criticality Index (ECI), kekritisan lingkungan, analisis spasiotemporal. ***** This study examines the spatiotemporal dynamics of environmental criticality levels in Medan City during the 2014–2024 period, which are influenced by rapid urbanization and increasing environmental degradation. A quantitative spatiotemporal approach was employed using the Environmental Criticality Index (ECI) method. The ECI was calculated based on four biophysical parameters derived from Landsat 8 imagery, namely Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI), and Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), for the years 2014, 2019, and 2024. The results indicate an increasing trend in environmental criticality levels in Medan City. This trend is reflected in: (1) a significant increase in the average Land Surface Temperature (LST), from 30.24°C in 2014 to 33.34°C in 2024; and (2) a decline in vegetation density, as evidenced by the expansion of areas with low NDVI values from 8,112.14 ha to 9,598.34 ha. Spatial analysis reveals that areas with the highest levels of environmental criticality (Critical and Very Critical) are predominantly concentrated in the central and southern parts of the city, including Medan Kota, Medan Area, and Medan Johor Districts. These findings underscore the state of environmental criticality resulting from land-use change and provide a vital data foundation for sustainable environmental management in Medan City.
