Abstract
Fenomena penggunaan cadar oleh mahasiswi di Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) merupakan realitas sosial yang memunculkan beragam respons, makna, dan dinamika interaksi di lingkungan kampus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami konstruksi makna cadar pada mahasiswi bercadar di UNJ. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah menggali bagaimana makna cadar terbentuk dalam kesadaran subjektif mahasiswi, bagaimana makna tersebut diekspresikan melalui tindakan sosial di lingkungan kampus, serta bagaimana respon lingkungan kampus memunculkan proses objektivasi awal terhadap praktik bercadar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam dengan subjek penelitian yang terdiri dari 7 (tujuh) informan yakni mahasiswi bercadar dari berbagai fakultas dan angkatan di UNJ, disertai dengan observasi dan dokumentasi. Penelitian dilakukan di kampus Universitas Negeri Jakarta, serta secara daring melalui platform Google Meeting pada periode penelitian yang berlangsung sejak November 2024 hingga Desember 2025. Triangulasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu Ketua Keputrian BSO MAI FISH UNJ, Ketua Keputrian FSI-KU FBS UNJ dan Ketua Koordinator PSDM LPBAI Nyantrend UNJ. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna cadar terbentuk melalui proses internalisasi nilai religius dari keluarga, lingkungan sosial, dan akses pengetahuan keagamaan. Dari proses tersebut muncul tiga makna utama cadar, yaitu sebagai upaya menjaga konsistensi dalam menjalankan syariat Islam, sebagai kontrol diri, serta sebagai pelindung dan penjaga kehormatan. Makna-makna ini kemudian dieksternalisasikan melalui tindakan nyata berupa penggunaan cadar dalam kehidupan kampus, yang memengaruhi cara mahasiswi berinteraksi dengan dosen, teman kuliah, dan lingkungan organisasi. Dari eksternalisasi yang dilakukan secara berulang, kemudian muncul proses objektivasi awal. Keberadaan mahasiswi bercadar menghadirkan beragam respons, pandangan, serta pola interaksi dari dosen maupun mahasiswa lain, meskipun belum menjadi realitas objektif yang mapan. ***** The phenomenon of female students wearing the veil at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) is a social reality that has given rise to various responses, meanings, and dynamics of interaction on campus. This study aims to understand the construction of meaning of the veil among female students who wear the veil at UNJ. The main focus of this study is to explore how the meaning of the veil is formed in the subjective consciousness of female students, how that meaning is expressed through social actions on campus, and how the response of the campus environment gives rise to an initial process of objectification of the practice of wearing the veil. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews with research subjects consisting of 7 (seven) informants, namely veiled female students from various faculties and batches at UNJ, accompanied by observation and documentation. The research was conducted at the State University of Jakarta, as well as online through the Google Meeting platform during the research period from November 2024 to December 2025. Triangulation in this study was carried out by the Head of the MAI FISH UNJ Student Executive Board, the Head of the FSI-KU FBS UNJ Student Executive Board, and the Head of the PSDM LPBAI Nyantrend UNJ Coordinator. The results of the study show that the meaning of the veil is formed through a process of internalizing religious values from the family, social environment, and access to religious knowledge. From this process, three main meanings of the veil emerge, namely as an effort to maintain consistency in practicing Islamic law, as self-control, and as a protector and guardian of honor. These meanings are then externalized through concrete actions in the form of wearing the veil in campus life, which influences how female students interact with lecturers, fellow students, and organizational environments. From this repeated externalization, an initial process of objectification emerges. The presence of female students wearing the veil elicits various responses, views, and patterns of interaction from lecturers and other students, although it has not yet become an established objective reality.
