Abstract
***** This study examines capital contestation and conversion mechanisms within the Tika Widya Writing Learning Community on WhatsApp as a digital field of symbolic struggle. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s perspective, the study examines how differences in capital ownership and efforts to convert capital shape writers’ career trajectories within a hierarchical field structure. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining netnography as a qualitative method with surveys and text mining as quantitative techniques. Data were collected through online observation, in-depth interviews, digital documentation, and text scraping conducted between March and December 2025. The findings indicate that writers’ trajectories are shaped by the interaction between their initial capital and the intensity of capital conversion efforts. Writers with greater capital are more likely to accelerate their movement toward dominant positions, whereas peripheral writers face constrained conversion opportunities, leading to trajectory stagnation within the digital community.
