Abstract
Media sosial merupakan sarana komunikasi berbasis internet yang memungkinkan penggunanya untuk saling berinteraksi, berbagi informasi, dan memperoleh pengetahuan dengan cepat. Instagram menjadi salah satu platform yang dimanfaatkan oleh orang tua untuk mendapatkan informasi terkait sex education. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media sosial Instagram @theasianparent_id terhadap kebutuhan informasi orang tua mengenai pentingnya sex education pada anak. Penelitian menggunakan teori new media (Holmes dalam Littlejohn, Foss, & Oetzel, 2017) dan media information utility theory (DeFleur, 2016). Variabel yang digunakan terdiri atas variabel media sosial (X) yang meliputi empat dimensi: social media use for communication, social media use for collaboration, social media use for education, dan social media use for entertainment. Variabel kebutuhan informasi (Y) memiliki empat dimensi: current need approach, everyday need approach, exhaustic need approach, dan catching-up need approach. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan ialah kuantitatif dengan paradigma positivisme dan jenis penelitian eksplanatif. Metode survei dilakukan melalui penyebaran kuesioner menggunakan Google Form. Populasi penelitian ialah seluruh likers pada konten “Jaga Anak dari Bahaya Predator Anak” tanggal 6 Maret 2025 sebanyak 1.979 akun Instagram. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah purposive sampling dengan jumlah responden 95 orang berdasarkan rumus Slovin. Analisis data dilakukan melalui analisis univariat dan bivariat menggunakan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial Instagram @theasianparent_id memiliki pengaruh terhadap kebutuhan informasi orang tua mengenai edukasi seks pada anak. Temuan tersebut terlihat dari hasil distribusi frekuensi dan nilai mean pada seluruh dimensi variabel. Uji koefisien determinasi menunjukkan 67,3% variabilitas kebutuhan informasi dapat dijelaskan oleh penggunaan media sosial, sedangkan 32,7% sisanya dipengaruhi faktor eksternal lain. Uji hipotesis menyatakan bahwa Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Kesimpulan penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa semakin banyak likers mengakses media sosial Instagram @theasianparent_id, maka pemenuhan kebutuhan informasi orang tua mengenai sex education pada anak semakin tinggi. Saran yang dapat diberikan adalah agar pengelola akun meningkatkan penyajian konten edukatif berbasis perlindungan anak serta memperluas topik sex education agar sesuai kebutuhan orang tua, dengan penyampaian informasi yang konsisten, jelas, dan mudah dipahami. ***** Social media is an internet-based communication medium that enables users to interact, share information, and gain knowledge quickly. Instagram is one of the platforms widely utilized by parents to obtain information related to sex education. This study aims to determine the influence of Instagram @theasianparent_id social media usage on parents’ information needs regarding the importance of sex education for children. This research employs the new media theory by Holmes (in Littlejohn, Foss, & Oetzel, 2017) and the media information utility theory by DeFleur (2016). The variables consist of social media usage (X) with four dimensions: social media use for communication, collaboration, education, and entertainment. The information needs variable (Y) includes four dimensions: current need approach, everyday need approach, exhaustic need approach, and catching-up need approach. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a positivism paradigm and explanatory research design. The survey method was conducted by distributing questionnaires via Google Form. The population consists of 1,979 Instagram accounts that liked the content “Jaga Anak dari Bahaya Predator Anak” posted on March 6, 2025. Purposive sampling was applied, resulting in 95 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Data were analyzed through univariate and bivariate analysis using simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that the use of Instagram social media account @theasianparent_id has an influence on parents’ information needs regarding sex education for children. This finding is reflected in the frequency distribution and mean values across all dimensions of the variables examined. The coefficient of determination test shows that 67.3% of the variability in parents’ information needs can be explained by social media use, while the remaining 32.7% is influenced by other external factors. The hypothesis testing results indicate that the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) is accepted. In conclusion, the study confirms that the more frequently likers access the Instagram account @theasianparent_id, the higher the fulfillment of parents’ information needs regarding sex education for children. Therefore, it is recommended that account managers enhance the presentation of educational content focused on child protection and broaden sex education topics to better align with parents’ needs, while ensuring that the information is delivered consistently, clearly, and in an easily understandable manner.
