Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang mahasiswa rantau 2023, Prodi Pendidikan Geografi Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Penelitian ini juga menjelaskan strategi adaptasi mahasiswa rantau 2023, Prodi Pendidikan Geografi, Universitas Negeri Jakarta dalam menghadapi tantangan yang dialami selama proses adaptasi sebagai mahasiswa rantau di Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Negeri Jakarta yang berlokasi di Jl. Rawamangun Muka No.11 RT 11 RW 14 Rawamangun, Kecamatan Pulo Gadung, Kota Jakarta Timur. Penelitian ini dilakukan mulai dari bulan September 2024 sampai April 2025. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari enam orang informan, yakni SS, KA, YS, AI, AW, SP. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Teori yang digunakan adalah Teori Struktural Fungsional, dari Talcott Parsons Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa rantau Prodi Pendidikan Geografi, Universitas Negeri Jakarta memiliki dorongan untuk merantau karena di latar belakangi oleh faktor pendorong yakni, pendidikan, ekonomi, dukungan sosial dan karir. Untuk faktor pendorong mahasiswa rantau pendidikan geografi tersebut, yakni kualitas pendidikan yang lebih baik dan ketersediaan program studi yang diminati, ingin merubah ekonomi keluarga, memiliki dukungan dari keluarga, dan ingin mendapatkan peluang karir yang bagus. Selama proses adaptasi di lingkungan baru mahasiswa rantau mengalami beberapa tantangan, yakni tantangan ekonomi, sosial budaya, dan akademik. Dengan demikian, mahasiswa rantau pendidikan geografi melakukan beberapa cara dalam upaya mengatasi tantangan yang dialami tersebut yakni, menjalin hubungan yang baik dengan teman, lebih percaya diri, memanfaatkan beasiswa, mengatur keuangan, memiliki dukungan dari teman, keluarga dan keterlibatan dalam organisasi. Kata kunci: Mahasiswa Rantau Prodi Pendidikan Geografi, Faktor pendorong, Tantangan Adaptasi, Strategi Adaptasi ***** This study aims to determine the background of 2023 overseas students, Geography Education Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, State University of Jakarta. This study also explains the adaptation strategies of 2023 overseas students, Geography Education Study Program, State University of Jakarta in facing the challenges experienced during the adaptation process as overseas students at State University of Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. This research was conducted at State University of Jakarta which is located on Jl. Rawamangun Muka No.11 RT 11 RW 14 Rawamangun, Pulo Gadung District, East Jakarta City. This research was conducted from September 2024 to April 2025. The research subjects consisted of six informants, namely SS, KA, YS, AI, AW, SP. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interview, and documentation. The theory used is Functional Structural Theory, from Talcott Parsons. The results of this study indicate that overseas students of the Geography Education Study Program, State University of Jakarta have an urge to migrate because they are motivated by driving factors, namely, education, economy, social support and career. For the driving factors of geography education students, namely the better quality of education and the availability of study programs of interest, wanting to change the family economy, having support from family, and wanting to get good career opportunities. During the adaptation process in the new environment, overseas students experience several challenges, namely economic, socio-cultural, and academic challenges. Thus, overseas students of geography education do several ways in an effort to overcome the challenges experienced, namely, establishing good relationships with friends, being more confident, utilizing scholarships, managing finances, having support from friends, family and involvement in organizations.
