Abstract

This research aims to develop a learning model of scientific writing integrated with pedagogical translanguaging in virtual classrooms at universities. The background of this research stems from the complexity of new language learning situations due to the rapid development of information and digital communication technology. In response to this complexity, multiliteracy pedagogy was introduced, emphasizing the need for learning interconnected with two "multi" dimensions: multilingual and multimodal. Within the framework of Education 4.0, pedagogical translanguaging was chosen as an innovative learning strategy to address the needs of students in a multilingual and multimodal era. This concept utilizes the students' entire linguistic repertoire in the learning process, particularly in scientific writing skills, which are essential in higher education but still lack popularity and training. Therefore, a genre approach is used to build scaffolding stages that support the integration of pedagogical translanguaging in the instructional design of virtual classrooms. The method used in the model development is the Successive Approximation Model (SAM) because of its iterative and agile nature, which allows for design flexibility based on real-world feedback. The research stages include needs analysis, instructional design development, Alpha model development, and evaluation of its effectiveness in enhancing meaningful, motivating, and measurable learning. The results of this research include the development of a blueprint, instructional design, and a model for integrated scientific writing learning in a virtual classroom. This model addresses today’s contemporary learning and capable of enhancing student engagement and self-regulation in the multilingual context of Indonesia. Furthermore, the integration of pedagogical translanguaging serves as a means to protect cultural heritage by promoting the use of the Indonesian language alongside proficiency in English. Keywords: Interactivity, Pedagogical Translanguaging, Research and Development, Scientific Writing, Virtual Class.
